Default Battery Issue Prompts Apple to Replace Some New iPhones

Apple has begun replacing what we are told is a "very limited" number of new iPhones (iPhone 5s) due to a manufacturing problem that is supposedly negatively impacting device performance pertinent to the battery.

"We recently discovered a manufacturing issue affecting a very limited number of iPhone 5s devices that could cause the battery to take longer to charge or result in reduced battery life," a spokesperson for Apple was quoted by USA Today.

"We are reaching out to customers with affected phones and will provide them with a replacement phone," the statement concluded. No word was given as to whether the issues affected dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of users.

The same report indicates that Apple is "mostly contacting customers by phone," which clearly suggests that the underlying problem is by no means vastly widespread. Additionally, it should be noted that the defective batteries in no way make them unsafe. The matter is strictly limited to performance problems.

My 5S drains the battery in about 4-5 hours where as my 4S took around 8-10 hours. And I have decreased the brightness to 50%.

i highly doubt apple would call someone for a battery problem for performance
seems like an unsafe battery but probably after years of use like the first iPod nano battery

yes, all day at work. I work a 10 hour shift. If I barely used it I could usually make it the whole shift without having to recharge. But I would have to charge it right after work. So yes. My old 4S could last 8-10 hours on a single charge. The 5S on the other hand seems like it makes it 4-5 and I need to charge or its gonna shut off...

My 5s battery last longer than my 5 or any other iPhone I've had. My 5 sucked big time the worst of any.

I'm getting terrible battery life. This morning I'm down 25% in three hours with very limited use. Any word on how to find out if I'm replacement eligible?
