iOS Hacker Planetbeing Updates Us Once More on the Progress of the iOS 7 Jailbreak
On Wednesday, well-known iOS hacker planetbeing announced that the evad3rs team is working hard on the iOS 7 jailbreak via a Tweet on Twitter.
The hacker notes that he thinks they may have all the pieces that they need to construct one, but aren’t entirely sure just yet. While it’s still a bit of an unknown, it's good to see that planetbeing is also confident that the evad3rs are moving in the right direction.
iOS hacker pod2g announced his confidence in an iOS 7 jailbreak a while back.
It's also good to see that the hackers are staying open about their progress, as it gives those anxious for a jailbreak some peace of mind in knowing that progress is being made. It will probably still be quite a while before the public actually gets to jailbreak iOS 7, though.
iOS hacker MuscleNerd confirmed that iOS 7.0.2 would be jailbreak-safe as it didn’t change much from iOS 7.0 or iOS 7.0.1, but an upcoming iOS 7.0.3 and iOS 7.1 could change things. We would suggest waiting to update to these firmwares until the hackers have had a chance to confirm that they're safe. We will continue to keep you posted.

So is it safe to update to 7.0.2? Last I read it was best to stay on 6.1.4 so I did

If you want a jailbreak sooner, rather than later, stick with iOS 6.1.4. There is almost a completed jailbreak for that firmware that should be released rather soon.
If you can wait... then yes, iOS 7.0.2 is jailbreak-safe as MuscleNerd pointed out.
A completely separate hacker is working on the iOS 6.1.4 jailbreak.

I'm not 100% sure but perhaps you still can if apple is still signing 6.1.4

Has there been any word on the progress for the differing devices? If I recall correctly we got a 4s jailbreak quite a while before a 5 jailbreak, due to hardware changes. Has anyone read anything about whether the 5s is on track along with the jailbreaks for all of the previous devices?

That's what they say @GrandMstrBud that it is safe to update to 7.0.2. I've already updates mine on my iPhone 5.....

Great news :-) This is way more progress than we had in the same time-frame post iOS 5 or 6 releases :-)

I would stay on 6.1.2 if I were you. I don't really "need" the jailbreak but the phone seems pretty boring without it

It might seem like a strange question, should I update to iOS 7 from my JB 6.1.*, but is it not worth pondering ?. What happens if apple update to 7.1 before a JB is released and it simultaneously closes the exploits that were being used, the JB would only work on firmwares below 7.1, then those waiting patiently on 6.1.* will have missed the boat on a iOS 7 untether. Think I could happily put up with no jailbreak for a few months to guarantee I could have a iOS 7 JB
