Apple Acknowledges iMessage Bug and Claims to be Working on a Fix
Apple recently said it was aware of an issue that several iPhone users have been experiencing with iMessage since upgrading to iOS 7, noting that a fix is being worked on. The Cupertino California company told The Wall Street Journal in a statement that it is aware of an apparent iMessage glitch in which some usersí messages go unsent, unreceived or sent as a text on various iPhone models running iOS 7.
Apple released the following statement regarding the matter:
We are aware of an issue that affects a fraction of a percent of our iMessage users, and we will have a fix available in an upcoming software update. In the meantime, we encourage any users having problems to reference our troubleshooting documents or contact AppleCare to help resolve their issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes impacted users.
- Disable iMessage in Settings > Messages,
- Reset the iPhone's Network Settings under Settings > General > Reset
- Reenable iMessage.
It should be noted that Apple didnít make the patch rollout timeframe clear, though reports are claiming a third iOS 7 update, dubbed iOS 7.0.3, is set to release next week and may patch the issue.

I can't believe there are no comments. I've had this issue come up at the worst possible times. For example, I was supposed to meet with someone and tell the person when I was leaving to meet (or say if I wasn't going to make it on time, since there was a concern that I would not). When I departed, I sent the message "leaving now." After I arrived, I got a message asking "status update?" I responded: "Arrived at [location]." Neither of my messages went out. The person had to call me...then depart to my location after I was already waiting there.
iMessage was stuck saying "Sending message x of x..." forever. It would not time-out or show an error message (the article implies that there's an error message). I would have to turn my phone off and restart so it would finally fail sending and I could re-send.
This has happened multiple times with multiple different contacts in iMessage conversations over the last few days.

Since I share my iTunes account, I don't use iMessage. I also have unlimited text with AT&T.

To err is human, but to acknowledge a mistake is not Apple
