Default WSJ: Apple Working on an iPhone with a Screen Size up to 6" Diagonally

According to Wall Street Journal reporter Ian Sherr, Apple is reportedly testing a variety of next-generation iPhones with larger screen sizes, with some being up to six inches diagonally. That being said, the devices aren’t expected to roll out at next week’s media event as the idea is still in the conceptual stage. For those of you who didn’t already know, the large-format smartphones, which are also called “phablets” with display sizes ranging from 4.8 inches to 6 inches, similar to products made by Apple’s rival, Samsung.

The sources claim internal discussions are finding Apple to be more open to launching a phablet iPhone. The company just last year upped the smartphone’s screen to a 4-inch panel, the first such change in display size since the iPhone first hit the market in 2007. Component suppliers say Apple has become particularly interested in the 4.8-inch form factor after recent tests. Similar rumors were conveyed by the WSJ in July, reporting that larger format iPhones may also be joined by a 13-inch iPad.

During Apple’s quarterly conference call in April, Tim Cook was asked about the possibility of an iPhone phablet. He said the company would not ship a device with a larger screen until solutions are found for certain ‘trade-offs,” including battery life, color reproduction and longevity among others. Cook didn’t comment on whether Apple is experimenting with bigger iPhone products, though it can be speculated that the company is at least toying with the idea.

We’ll just have to wait patiently until more concrete information is released.

    Nothing in between ?
    We need a 5", 16:10, 1080P iPhone
    And a 7.3", 1080P iMini.
Unfortunately however, there are very few humans on this planet who understand the critical importance of appropriate phone and tablet aspect-ratios - and screensize.

What do you mean "nothing in between ?" You obviously did not even read the first sentence of the article.

Why do so many people think there can only be ONE iPhone ?

But if there is to be one - it would be extremely funny if they made it 5".
    Why ?
Because the small-screeners have had it their way far too long.
And because they have no idea what they really want.
I'm sure there are treatment-programmes for those with a diagnosable fear of screens over 4".

Look like apple can't resist with the samsung note is growing in the market. And these people complain about it is selfish they think only about themselves you don't like it then don't buy it.Some people like big some like small, with 10 million samsung note sold that proved it.

It almost brings this to mind: iPhone 6. Now Who Has a Bigger Screen?

Make me chuckle. It's just a massive game of oneupmanship but I think Apple knows better, and knows when to stop. I don't want my iPhone any bigger.

And that is the final nail in Steve's coffin.... Apple has really lost it's way.. I don't think it can ever find it's way back to be honest.

With Steve gone, Apple is truly controlled by the board members.. not Cook ... and the board will always be about profit above design. Apple had a good run, but I think the tides are about to turn against it.

I don't think a bit larger would be a problem for anyone but too large is silly. I see everyone pulling out these giant Androids and nearly every one of them is broken somewhere b/c they're too big and difficult to hold in your hand.

It's a hand held device not a hands held device.

Your bugging, this is exactly what apple should have done a long time ago. People want a bigger screen period. Apple can just make two phones, a tiny screen for YOU, and a large one for ME!
