Default SNES Emulator Found Hidden in a Recently Released File Manager App in the App Store

A recently released file-sharing app called Remote File Manager holds a secret that managed to get past Apple: it can boot up and play Super Nintendo games via built-in emulation software. According to TouchArcade, the *.smc files that hold SNES games arenít actually on the list of supported file types that the app claims to be able to manage but the app can handle them just fine.

One of the most interesting features about this particular emulator is that it allows you to play games that are stored in a Dropbox account. This feature proves to be especially useful because you donít actually have to ever move the software to your iPhone or iPad in order to play it. The whole concept is pretty cool despite the practice of emulation coming off as shady, immoral, and illegal to some. The Remote File Manager is available for $0.99 USD as of right now but chances are it wonít be up for very long as Apple is likely to pull it once news of its additional feature begins to spread.

it's awesome, but should we be concerned that devs are getting things past Apple, I mean what if somebody has created an app with malicious code hidden in it. It just crossed my mind
privacy isn't about having something to hide

Good point. How do we know this app itself doesn't do this?

Because then they would have to have broken past Apple's app sandboxing, which is only done by jailbreaking.

I'm aware of this, but how do you get sios or the other SNES emulator to work? I couldn't run games on sios and the other one was just corrupted (in terms of controls) on my iPad.

    So do the original consoles.

As the owner of several ROM-dumping and loading hardware units, I can attest to there being plenty of legal ways to get copyrighted games on it and they also play homebrew games that are perfectly legal.

Ok so you make a back up of your own game? Doubtful any of these people do. But that's not the point. I use emulators (Dolphin specifically) but I have owned all the games I use with my emulator. It's still illegal and making backup disc images is a legal grey area when considered for emulator use.
