You run more of a risk because you are charging your android device so much more frequently.

Yes MooShoo, you have read the article wrong. The family claim not the woman herself . And if it is a third party items, then, there's nothing Apple can do about it.

So the moral of the story is:
third party iOS charging devices are the new silent assassin.
QED You should only buy from Apple 😉

If I were investigating this I would be more interested in looking at the dodgy overloaded power-board and sketchily wired up powerpoint that this charger was probably plugged into. Electrical circuits are the sum of their parts. Just sayin'

How does a woman who claimed she died, live to tell about it? Just curious.

Yes it's serious. Ghost Busters international did a whole episode about it last weekend and they investigated the holy spirit and she told them she was on the phone while it was charging.

Question: If someone is being electrocuted aren't they effectively paralyzed? If the guy could shout out about being shocked why then couldn't he let go or step back? Those cords are so short even if he fell it would have unplugged.
If they had health issues, they could be "shocked", and not electrocuted, and have a severe or fatal outcome. If you grab a live line with one hand, and ground yourself with the other, the current goes across your heart. It's not likely that you would get locked on and "stuck" to any 110v device, but when that current crosses over from one side to the other to get to ground, and you have heart or health issues...it could end very badly.

People who are electrocuted don't always die right away.
This is a completely unrelated story, but illustrates my point:
UPDATE: Deadly microwave was not plugged in | News | Worth County News

"Roddy managed to walk into his sister's room and tell her what happened before he collapsed. He later died at the hospital."

I'm no doctor, but I believe an electric shock can cause an arrhythmia that kills in minutes instead of instantly.

Also, someone mentioned buying genuine Apple chargers - you don't have to buy genuine Apple, any genuine name brand charger should be good and safe. Here's an interesting web page where the guy went to great lengths to test various chargers. He also has photos, teardowns, and explanations on why the knock-off chargers are so dangerous.
Ken Shirriff's blog: A dozen USB chargers in the lab: Apple is very good, but not quite the best

Easy quality test if you're using a knock-off charger is to see if your touchscreen works properly when plugged into the charger. If not, probably ought to toss it.

I got this picture in my head (a moving picture!) akin to the anime/fighting films. Just picture a chinese man shouting (kind of lengthily) ELECTRIC SHOOOOOOCK!

I would guess if you live in the country where these crappy knock-off chargers are made, that's probably all you'd find in your nearest electronics store. Also, China uses 220V outlets so you have the potential to be zapped by nearly twice as much voltage as a US outlet.

hmm, my oem charger does exactly this...

No way it could be a knockoff? I've had many models of iPhones and the touchscreens all worked fine with the OEM charger.

nope, OEM charger that came with my iPhone from day one. I should probably get another OEM cable to test to see if it is the cable or not...
