Tumblr has issued an update to the popular Tumblr application for iOS Tuesday evening to fix a major security hole that could cause a userís password to be compromised in specific situations. The update brings Tumblr to version 3.4.1.

Tumblr urges users to download the update as soon as possible to prevent the security threat:

We have just released a very important security update for our iPhone and iPad apps addressing an issue that allowed passwords to be compromised in certain circumstancesĻ. Please download the update now.

If youíve been using these apps, you should also update your password on Tumblr and anywhere else you may have been using the same password. Itís also good practice to use different passwords across different services by using an app like 1Password or LastPass.

Please know that we take your security very seriously and are tremendously sorry for this lapse and inconvenience.
As Tumblr notes, it would also be a good idea for you to change your password after downloading the latest update just so that you can be sure your information is safe. Although the update fixes the security hole that could make it easy for your password to get compromised, you will want to change your password just in case it indeed was compromised before the security update.

Also important, if you use the same password for multiple social networks, e-mails, or accounts, you will probably want to change those tooÖ maybe even mix them up a bit.

Existing users of the Tumblr application for iOS should find the update under the Updates tab in the App Store and download it immediately. Alternatively, you can download the latest version of Tumblr for iOS via this App Store link.
