Default Google Shows Off An Impressive Upcoming Update for Google Maps

Although Google is shutting down Google Latitude, Google Maps is still alive and strong, and Google has just teased us with an interesting upcoming update for Google Maps that will affect Android and iOS devices alike!

The tease includes a new Explore feature that allows users to find places by category, such as Drink, Shop, Play, Sleep, and more. Drink would obviously take users to a restaurant, while Shop would find stores, Play would find fun things to do, and Sleep would find hotels; all locally, of course.

The update also promises to improve navigation, thanks to Google's acquisition of Waze, users of the upcoming Google Maps update will be able to see reports of road problems and can re-route their paths to their destination if a faster route is available.

Also built-in will be full tablet support, which will be great for users of Android tablets and iPads. The update will even bring the ability to read about reviews and offers for places around you.

You can check out Google’s teaser video below:

Maybe if you're a person who wants to explore the city it's nice, but I would rather just use a map application to get places...they showed it once.

The ad was a bit long for me as well at thirty seconds I thought it was an minute.

I'm not saying it's bad at all I just wasn't too impressed.

Yeah, I'm still a little confused as to what I was watching and what the update really is.

I agree. Only new feature I saw were those tiles. Nothing impressive at all unless you were hyped by the music and first person video
