Default Apple to Install Advanced Display Calibration Machines for iPhone 5 Screen Replacements

As part of its new $149 iPhone screen replacement service which we previously reported on, Apple is said to be installing advanced display calibration machines at its retail stores. The purpose of the machine is to help simplify the phone screen replacement process for employees.

A picture of the new machine was recently published by the folks at 512pixels. The picture offers a glimpse at how iPhone 5 screens are replaced behind the scenes at Apple retail stores. Employees conduct the repair and the machine is used afterwards to automatically calibrate the displays functionality.

One of the Apple retail employees reportedly said the new machine is like “bringing China to the Genius Room” references to the fact that Apple’s iPhones are currently built overseas by Foxconn. Repairs for the iPhone are supposedly a higher priority for employees of Apple’s Genius Bars. This isn’t much of a surprise given the fact that 47.8 million iPhones were sold last quarter alone. Apple’s smartphone sold more than every other product in the company’s portfolio combined.

The news of Apple repairing iPhone 5 screens in its stores as part of the company’s overhaul of its AppleCare warranty program surfaced earlier this week. Before this, broken units were swapped out for refurbished devices. The revamp of the AppleCare program as well as the changes being made will allow Apple to save more money and offer cheaper services to its customers as well, a win/win situation. Beyond iPhone displays, retail employees are said to be able to replace cameras, sleep/wake buttons, and logic-boards by July.

Not in America, labor is so cheap here they don't care if we jump off a building or not.

Get the gorilla glass for the iPhone 5S and call it a day. All this money for cell phones and these companies are still using glass. What a waste of time and money.

Don't iPhones already use Gorilla Glass?

Ya this machine is for the iPhone 5, how about the iPhone 4/4s? Those phones are a nightmare when it comes to a screen replacement when.

iPhone 5 does have chemically hardened glass (I've read many places that it's Gorilla Glass 2). All chemically-hardened glass, including Gorilla Glass (TM), only resists scratching--not shattering.
