    I hope it's not plastic. If I were a designer at Apple, I'd probably use a matte polycarbonate shell, in either black or white.

    I could easily take a shiny 3GS case and stick a Lightning Plug into it. A little Photoshop and there you go!

    The problem with that is the same problem the iPod touch 4 had during its two year refresh cycle. All the new apps were being made with the 4S in mind and even though you had a "current model" almost every single decent app crashed or was so slow that it wasn't even worth opening.

    I know people who own both an iPhone 4 and 3GS, and both of them find it difficult to get modern, up-to-date apps without it feeling like crap.
