Best Buy Slashing iPhone 4S and 5 Models by $50 This Sunday
Best Buy is looking to provide what could truly be the best buy available for shoppers in the market for a new iPhone 4S or iPhone 5.
Beginning Sunday, the electronics retailer will slash the prices on all iPhone 4S/5 models by an impressive $50. The sale, we're told, won't be limited to this holiday weekend either. In fact, the promotion will last four weeks.
As of May 26th, shoppers can get the discount as long as they are willing to accept a corresponding two-year contract with Verizon Wireless, AT&T, or Sprint.
Similar discounts are available on leading Android phones, Best Buy confirms.
According to Best Buy, the iPhone promotion means shoppers can get an iPhone 4S for $49, a 16GB iPhone 5 for $149, a 32GB iPhone 5 for $249, or a 64GB iPhone 5 for $349.
The iPhone-related promotion ends June 29th.

Sounds like they're clearing inventory for upcoming models. I wonder if this means that Apple won't drop the iPhone 5 to $99 like usual. That might be a good price point for the low budget iPhone coming up (at least in the states). They could of course want to build an 8gb iPhone 5 which would also call for a purge of the 16gb models.

I wonder if any of the models will still be on 6.1.2...
I'd 'think' a 64GB would sell less cuz of the steep price so maybe they have some w/ 6.1.2 left on it.

Ok, I've figured out how to identify if when an ip5 is manufactured. The box had the serial # on it. If the fourth letter is a 'J,' then it was made in 2012. If its a 'K,' then it was made in 2013.
If the fifth digit is between 1-9 or A-D then I 'should' be safe in assuming it will have 6.1.2 or earlier. If the fifth digit is 'D,' it falls within March which is risky since 6.1.3 came out on 3-19-13

Apple sales for many, some listed above and myself included are often dependent not on the $50 off sales at Best Buy but rather on whether or not the iDevice is jail-breakable.
What does that say to you Apple? Stop messing with our ability to use our devices and customize them the way we choose or lose another 25% of your sales.

No discounts for phones with no contract? That sucks. I'm not giving up my unlimited data. I'm using like 8gb of data a month!
