Default Google Search App Updated - Gets Google Now

On Monday Google has issued a major update to the Google Search application for iOS, bringing it to version 3.0. The update adds support for Google Now, a feature that was until today, only available on Android devices.

When you launch the updated Google Search application for the first time after updating, you will be asked to sign in with your Google account. You will also start being walked through the Google Now tutorial, which explains all of the great features Google Now has available for you.

Google Now gives you all of the information that you need ‘now,’ such as how long until getting to work, your current weather conditions outside, the statistics of your favorite sport teams, news stories, flight information, currency rates, and more. Check out Google's Google Now Video below:

One thing to be wary of is that Google Now will be almost always using your location, so you might notice a significant drain in battery life after using it.

Existing users of the Google Search application will find the update under the Updated tab in the App Store. Alternatively, you can download the updated Google Search application absolutely free via this App Store link.

Gonna wait and see what people say about battery but it does seem pretty cool.

I thought iOS apps couldn't have background processes using your location constantly like Android.

One issue - your location services icon becomes a bit pointless. You may as well etch or paint that little arrow onto the screen, because it's never going to not be there ;-)

I don't think so. I have an app that tracks my ski runs and runs all day in the background. It draws lines on the trail map and tells average and high speed, elevation and miles for each run.

That is one of the reason I'll not be using this. My battery went down 25% in 5 hours which is not bad but having the icon there 24/7 is just gonna bug me. It's not even a geofence icon. It's a solid arrow. Deleting app.

So you're supposed to leave it running in the background all day instead of killing it after closing it?

It's not that people turn it off, the glitch is that even when you close the app or lock your phone. Your phone is still updating your location constantly, killing the battery

There's no reason to delete the app. You can simply disable Google Now from the Google Search application's settings and the location icon will go away.

The application will draw your location whether you close the application from the background or not.
