Default 'Definei' Lets You Use a Third Party Dictionary for Defining Words in iOS

iOS comes with a built-in word-defining feature, which is accessed by selecting a word and then tapping on the “Define” button that appears in the menu. The button then launches the built-in iOS dictionary, which defines the selected word for you.

The built-in dictionary is very nice, but it’s lacking a lot of features that third party dictionaries may offer. For this reason, it would be a good idea for iOS to be able to let you choose the dictionary you want to use for defining words. This is the idea behind a new free jailbreak tweak called Definei by iOS developer gviridis.

As shown above, Definei lets you set the Define button in the iOS selection menu to define words in any third-party dictionary that you want to use, instead of using iOS’ built-in dictionary. We chose to use Dictionary.com for our example. Configuring the dictionary you want to use is done from Definei's preferences pane in the Settings application:

From the preferences pane, you will be able to enable and disable the tweak on demand, choose the dictionary service you want to use, and then choose to copy the word you define to be pasted later. Notably, the way you select your third-party dictionary is a little strange. Instead of an application picker, the developer created the tweak to have you enter your own URL.

For this instance, we chose Dictionary.com. The URL for defining words is http://m.dictionary.com/definition/[insert word here]. Because the tweak requires you to put an "@s" in place of the word you want to define, you will want to put the "@s" in the "[insert word here]" spot in the Dictionary.com URL. The "@s" stands for selected text, which is the word you selected and are attempting to define. To make things simple, if you want to use Dictionary.com to define words, you can copy the URL below and paste it into the tweak's URL field:

    PHP Code:
    http://m.dictionary.com/definition/@s
Definei opens the URL in Mobile Safari and then defines the word you want to define for you. Pretty snazzy! If you’re interested in trying Definei, you will find it available for free in Cydia’s BigBoss repository.

Does anyone know of a tweak that allows you to type a word into the home screen search and gives you the definition without launching an app?

"SpotDic" from Cydia but its still incompatible with iOS 6. I've been waiting for the update & still no progress.
