Default Apple's iOS Update Blocks evasi0n Jailbreak After It's Been Used 18 Million Times

Apple has officially taken down one of the most infamous jailbreaks of all time, evasi0n, on iOS 6.1.3. Released on February 4, the jailbreak lasted about six weeks before Apple released the update yesterday and disabled it. According to Saurik, also known as Jay Freeman, the jailbreak reached 18 million devices on iOS 6- including iPhones, iPod Touches and iPads.

Freeman reported to Fortune that the total number of jailbreaks from Evasi0n topped previous records and counted 13.8 million iPhones, 3.4 million iPads, and 1.1 million iPod Touches. Compared to previous jailbreaks, Apple took a much longer time patching evasi0n whereas for JailbreakMe 3, Apple only needed nine days to patch over it.

According to David Wang, one of the four creators of evasi0n, at least one of the bugs is still in Apple’s operating system. He also mentioned to Forbes that evad3rs (the hacker team who worked on evasi0n) has backup secret bugs that’s being saved for future jailbreaks. Although it is unknown exactly how many of the bugs will be patched in iOS 6.1.3, they do not plan on creating a new jailbreak until maybe the next major release.

For users who have already updated to iOS 6.1.3, sorry to say, but you have lost the ability to jailbreak your devices for months or possibly even longer according to Forbes. After 43 days and through two software updates, Apple officially takes out evasi0n.

A big "Thanks" to the evasi0n team for their amazing work. Without them I wouldn't have upgraded my iPhone. IntelliscreenX, SwipeSelection, SBS, Auxo & Overboard amongst many others saved the day for me. Thanks to all the Developers as well.
    Have fun guys. Much 💝

My sentient exactly. Apple will fall & it will be their own 'control freakish' fault.

My other iPhone 4 is on 6.1.2... No difference ... Atleast for the average user.

If it was inevitable that someone will find security flaws in your system, who would you rather have finding them? A group of mostly harmless, clever people who actually love the system they are modifying (IOS Jailbreakers), or a group of mostly profit or vandalism seeking individuals who just want to steal or break stuff? (Windows) I bet Apple actually appreciates its Jailbreak Community. Not that that does us any good. I would like to see a thank you from them ever now and then.

Lol! If you think Apple will fall, then I want whatever you're smokin'! There's no way Apple will fall just because they patch security holes in their OS..sure it makes it harder for us to JB but that's just the way it goes.

If 18,000,000 people stopped buying apple goods, would it dent apples stock value?

There are over 500 million iOS devices out there. We, 18million JBers, account for around 3pct.

    Default 6.1.3
I personally enjoy the "cat and mouse" game with Apple. I repair iPhones for a living and I have seen and heard just about everything. I do not own an iPhone and never will, but that is just me. I like them OK, but I do dislike Apple the company and the way the leave people holding their junk after they get their money. I can hardly wait to see all the hardware/software failures on peoples iPhones that happen just because they want to hurry up and stop the latest jailbreak and all the lost functionality people paid good money to have. Meanwhile Apple will have the usual dog and pony show and have people jumping through hoops trying all their "fixes" that do not work. How long will the wait be until the new iOS? Who knows. But I will make plenty of cash fixing the issues that pop up until then. Nice.

boy!!!! I came so close being stuck with 5.0.1. I thought that apple was going to release a bunch of betas first before the official release like they did in the past. I was taking my sweet time updating to latest firmware/jailbreak....so yesterday when I read that 6.1.3 was officially released, I almost had a heart attack LOL!! thank God I was still within the time window to restore my 4s to 6.1.2....talking about nick of time. All is good now! both the iphone and I are happy campers..LOL!!!! Donation well spent!!

Remember, 18 million is on iOS 6+ you have to factor in iOS 1-5 I'd put numbers around 5-8%

I am tired of all this sh*t from apple. Still have my ipad2 at 5.1.1 and it is OK, but if for some reason I have to restore than I am stuck FORCED to change the OS to a new version. WTF!? Currently waiting for the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 and for the Nexus 4 phone. Then the ipad goes to my son, the iphone to craigslist... IOS is not bad, just a bad apple.
