WinterBoard Update : Avoid the Dreaded "vNode" Leak

Saurik has just released an update to Cydia to version 0.9.3911. This update is intended to fix a bug that caused crashes when many apps are loaded using winterboard. While many have found a temporarily solution by downgrading, it wasn't quite the perfect fix.

After some investigating, Saurik tracked down a leak. A key resources by the name of vNode, from Apple, apparently only allocated 1250 by default.

I have managed to track this down to leaking a key resource, something called a "vnode", of which Apple, by default, only allocates 1250; this bug is a complex multi-component overlap.

In this case, when using iOS 6.1 (maybe also 6.0, but maybe not), with a 0.9.400x version of Substrate, and virtually any version of WinterBoard, you will probably encounter this issue.

After spending a couple days looking into this reported issue with some custom vnode debugging tools I wrote (which required getting some help from planetbeing, due to kASLR), I have determined WinterBoard is the correct place to fix this issue, and have done so there in 0.9.3911.

Themers and Winterboard users rejoice, another Winterboard update is always great news. Available in Cydia now!

I have had no luck with any of my previous winterboard add ons. No homer simpson doh text alert, no light saber lock sounds.... nothing.

The bug was quite a pain, everyone I know that uses winterboard on jailbreak encountered it. Troubleshooting led me to it 2 nights ago... Kinda now think my Jailbroken iPhone is better without it

This update didn't sort the UITabBarBlueGradient issue on the bottom bar dialer.

I have emailed Saurik

In the meantime here is the fix to theme those files if required

Make sure you've upgraded Mobile Substrate to the latest available version (0.9.4001), since UISounds themes don't work on iOS 6 wih Mobile Substrate versions before 0.9.4000.

Im so glad! my WWF, Facebook, and foursquare all crashed after opening those apps when winterboard was installed. They stopped crashing after winterboard was uninstalled, so i am so wishful this fix will solve that issue!
