Default 'Predicter' Notifies You When Someone Starts Writing an iMessage, Clears What They Type

Have you ever wanted to be notified when someone starts writing an iMessage to you, or when the sender clears their iMessage text field? A new free jailbreak tweak called Predicter by iOS developer Itay Brenner will do just that.

According to the developer, the tweak can come in handy when you think you might have a secret or shy admirer. When the person begins typing an iMessage to you, you will receive a banner notification that says they have started typing (it shows their name too). If they’re shy, and they decide to clear their text field before sending you a message, the tweak will send you yet another banner notification that tells you they’ve cleared the text field.

Of course, with this functionality, you can see when everyone - not just your secret admirer - starts typing to you or decides to retract their statement... if they're using iMessage.

The tweak uses information from Apple's iMessage servers to notify you of these events, so it won’t work with SMS. The developer warns that because Apple's iMessage servers do not always notify iOS devices when a person begins typing an iMessage or clears it entirely, the tweak won’t work 100% of the time, but it will notify you whenever Apple's iMessage servers push information to the iOS device you have Predicter installed on.

The concept behind the tweak is pretty nifty. Predicter works on both iOS 5 and iOS 6.

    Name: Predicter
    Price: FREE
    Version: 0.1-1
    Requirements: iOS 5+
    Repo: BigBoss
    Developer: Itay Brenner
    Editor's Rating:  4/5

Watch, soon someone will come out with a tweak called anti-predictor. For the people who prefer their privacy.

That actually couldn't be done. The tweak uses information that Apple automatically sends to iOS devices via their servers and just notifies the user when the information is successfully transmitted.

For a tweak to counter this one, the developer would have to infect Apple's iMessage servers with malware that kept the servers from sending this information to iOS devices, and... yeah let's not get into that.

EDIT: Well actually, they could. I suppose. If they had made it so the data wasn't created on the sender's device in the first place.

What if they made the data not created in the first place?

    That just hides the ellipsis.

What if you just turn off iMessage?
MyLocation App update for 5.1.1 - 6.1.2 from bushe! Incase you are having problems, this app is working fine. You may need an updated location.js file. If it has been updated, and still not updating go to settings/general/reset and reset all settings, this will not affect your JB!

But remember, some people are on iPod touches and iPads and iMessage is the only form of texting they have.

iPhones could get away with it.

What is the point? You gonna text someone randomly: "Hey just noticed you started typing something but never sent it." This is an app that will just make you overthink things and make you a creeper and nothing else.

How much data and battery would this drain on an average/day basis?

Then next thing you know someone is complaining about privacy rights and OMG, here we go again. More iPhone rights taken away.
I love my tweaks but I'm not so sure about this one. I think it could become very complicated.
    Just My 2 cents.

Or they could just block the packets from being sent to Apple's server. Like that chrome extension that blocks someone from seeing when you read their message on Facebook.

That tweak already exists :P But by a different name. It keeps it from telling others that you are typing.

Why do you say this isn't what TypingPrivacy is doing? What else would TypingPrivacy do, if not exactly that?

Either way it's a neat little tweak.
