    So if they are going to receive a message from you in a few seconds, what does it matter if they see you are typing? Furthermore, if you aren't actively engaged in a text conversation, why the hell would someone even be looking to see if you are typing a message to them at all?
    Exactly right. I can't figure out what the privacy issue is, since you're conversing with the person already anyway. This is like my 14-year-old, who feels he needs to keep private things that are completely innocuous, even when helpful to communicate.

    it has nothing to do with privacy really, but how many times are you typing to someone, no matter what client, and you see they're typing... so you stop to see what they're gonna say before you send your message, or u see them typing then stop because you're typing?
