I downloaded the firmware from here, iTunes still showing error when choosing that file. So just updated via iTunes, member of evasi0n suggested there was no difference in method, now on 6.1 - Thanks!

Hope they can find a way to restore to 6.1 if it messes up coz at the moment we only have 1 chance on it. (Because apple will patch it pretty soon).

I tried putting my phone in DFU mode and updating with iOS 6.1 IPSW, but I kept getting error code 1601 and 1602. I then tried updating through iTunes and got error code 21. Now I just see a picture of a USB and the iTunes logo on my 4S. Cannot get out of DFU. Tried holding home/power for 5 seconds and releasing power while holding home for 10 more sec....didn't work. Tried holding home/power to do a soft reset....didn't work. What else can I try?!?! fixed w/tiny umbrella...whew

the HOSTS file is located here:
C drive -> System32 -> drivers -> etc
open up the HOSTS file with notepad (run notepad as an administrator)
then check to see if the file has the hosts entry "184.108.40.206 gs.apple.com", if it is, delete it, save the file

Update for evasi0n 0.1-1 is live in Cydia. It converts your tethered 6.x JB to untethered.

July 2013. Apple is no longer signing 6.1.2. I have a FU iPhone 4s (Jailbroken, 6.1.2) that mysteriously went into recovery mode while plugged into my MacBook. Is it true that I cannot restore it to 6.1.2? I thought I had valid SHSH blobs (saved from TU) but I get a 1600 error when I try to install a local 6.1.2 IPSW. I have no idea why it would go into recovery mode: no hacked apps, everything on the phone is legit, paid for, and kosher ;-)
Are my only solutions to 1) restore to 6.1.3 (no option-restore) and wait for a jailbreakable iOS 7 in the fall or 2) restore it, sell it and try to buy a 4s with 6.1.2 on it so I can jailbreak with evasi0n?
Thanks in advance

I have been jailbreaking from the first iphone but have been a bit rusty lately.
I have bought a new Ipad 4 and luckily it has IOS 6.0.1.
Now, do i just use this evasion tool to JB or is it sort of out of date now for this firmware?
There is no way i can upgrade to 6.2.1 is there so my only hope is jailbreaking 6.0.1.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

I am keeping my fingers crossed - they need to figure out a way to restore 6.1 if it screws up since apple will lock it down soon enough.Passionate tech blogger, student in college and part time worker at SoldMyDevice.com
