Great info, Anthony. Time to get a new router. I did not know about 'dual band' routers. I thought mine was. It is not. Obviously. Thanks! Always something new to learn here.
Here to help if I can. If I can't I know someone who can!

I use this one; recommended for range. There are cheaper alternatives from Linksys with less range, but they're mostly dual-band (except for one) and all N.

Thanks. Price tag's a little steep for me but I'm looking for 5GHz and "N", basically.. right?

If price is a problem, this is the cheapest one Linksys sells with dual-band N:

Thats great, Anthony.. I'm used to Linksys since they're all I've ever owned. I have some pretty tricky VPN and PortForwarding stuff I need to set up on my system so Linksys will keep it familiar for me.

Am I correct in assuming that if my main Mac Pro has been plugged in with an Ethernet cable to my non dual band router - that is has NOT been suffering any slowed speeds from my 50Mbps downstream from Comcast? Only wireless connections have been hampered in my home network - right?

If your Mac doesn't use the wireless, you should have whatever full speed is for your plan available to you.

Is that just flat wrong compared to all the tweeting that's been happening from Planetbeing and ipod2? Is there some 'hot shot' hacker that's nailed a jailbreak for 6.0.1 only without the help of the dev teams? Curious if anyone's heard about this or is it just another 'false alarm'?

    Thanks!
Sounds a little sketchy to me. BOGUS.
The claim is: 6.1 GM drops today.
    6.1b8 expires on the 28th.
A brand new release of Redsnowwill won't be out this weekend,
and it will support an untethered JB on 6.0.1 (for some devices? which ones aren't specified)

Will that one allow you to hook up external drives to it? I want to get a router to do that for all my media

Also think I found my issue is I'm on a single ban wireless n. because of devices like atv and other 2.4 ghz devices my router is locked in to the 2.4 and not able to use the 5 ghz frequency.

Need to get a dual ban so my 2.4 ghz devices uses that frequency and my iPhones can use the 5ghz band

USB storage ports begin on the model that I use.

Also, if you only get 12Mb/s from your ISP, a single-band router can handle that speed just fine. You will only notice improvements from a dual-band router if your ISP offers speeds >20Mb/s, to be honest.

Your wired connections should demonstrate the full throughput as promised by your ISP.

The only thing that would be limited by lack of dual-band Wi-Fi is your wireless speed.

Wow, two moderators over there kinda making stuff up as they go. Been reading through that thread and they both make a few innacurate statements about SHSH and saving them.

    yay.
thank you for being both a smart guy AND a very nice moderator, Simon.
For being not being like "those guys on that other forum"

    The (apparent?) source is:
    Code:
    jailbreaks.eu
    by means of
    Code:
    gdeluxe.com
    .
Two sites that are very not legit.

willerz2 does seem to be a nice guy/gal.
And means well. But cut/pasting "news" from scam sites does not provide much of a helpful service.

Wow. I'm very surprised by this. The running "ethos" over there has been for quite some time that ModMyI should "stick to theming and leave all the jailbreak stuff to us over here". But this recent thread over there is quickly making me lose faith in their understanding of the jailbreak process.

On a related but different tangent - their "heavy-handed" moderating style over there is also the reason why the traffic has really started to drop off over there. They've lost a lot of really good people in the last year.
Here to help if I can. If I can't I know someone who can!
