Monitor Your Plants Using Your iOS Device via Parrot's Flower Power
If you are one of the many people who enjoy having plants around the house or the office but are clueless as to how to keep them healthy, then you are in luck. Parrot, the company behind the AR Drone quadricopter, is working on a new product called Flower Power that will help you keep your plants happy with assistance from your iPhone or other iOS device.
The stake-style sensor gets inserted into the soil next to a plant and monitors certain statistics such as moisture, sunlight, temperature and fertilizer content. This information is sent over Bluetooth Smart to a cloud-based server, which is then piped to your device so you’re informed when the plant needs water, food, or whether it needs to be moved to assure proper lighting conditions. The recommendations are pulled from a database after the user tells the app what type of plant they are monitoring.
One of cooler things about the Flower Power which was announced at CES is that the companion app is capable of tracking multiple plants and sensors in the same environment, indoors or out. Parrot hasn’t provided further details such as the pricing of the sensors but did mention that it plans to ship the hardware and release its companion app sometime in 2013.

That's pretty flipping cool stuff. I'd never get one unless they're really cheap, but cool nonetheless.
