'MapsOpener' Sets New Google Maps App As Your Default Maps app
The night Google Maps finally showed up in the iOS App Store, bringing a Google Maps application to iOS for the first time since iOS 5.1.1, users immediately wanted a way to make the Google Maps application the default mapping solution for their iOS devices. A new jailbreak tweak is available in Cydia today for free that will do this for you.
Dubbed MapsOpener by iOS development team HASHBANG Productions, the tweak can be used to make all commands relating to directions launch the Google Maps application from Google instead of the stock Google Maps application in iOS 5.1.1 and below.
For example, should you be browsing through locations in the free Yelp application from the App Store, and you tap on the 'directions to here' button to find out how to get there, Google’s new Google Maps application will launch and load up the directions for getting there instead of iOS’ mapping application.
The tweak also works with directions links that you might tap on from Mobile Safari, so if you go to Subway’s Web site (or some other place) and enter your zip code to show the nearest locations by you, and then tap on the ‘get directions’ button, this will also launch the new Google Maps application and load up the directions for you to follow.
If you love Google's new Google Maps application, and you're jailbroken, grab this tweak! Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to work as expected in iOS 6 just yet.

The new Google maps is so much better than Apples version and an improvement on the old version on 5.1.1, Now I can hide the old 5.1.1 version and just use the latest version

It doesn't change the maps for Siri. In my mind, this is most important.
