Hide iOS 6's New App Banner With 'NoNewApp'

With iOS 6, Apple introduced a new feature that places a banner on new applications you download from the App Store that says, “New.” This is obviously to alert you that the application was just downloaded, but most people know what application they have just spent the last couple of seconds or minutes downloading and don’t really need this rather redundant reminder.
If you don’t like being reminded that the application you just downloaded is a new application to your iOS device, then a new free jailbreak tweak named NoNewApp by iOS developer iMast777 gives you the ability to hide these banners from new applications that you download from the App Store.
NoNewApp comes with no options to configure. As soon as you install the tweak, the new banner will cease to appear on new applications you download from the App Store and it will never come back. If you change your mind and end up wanting to see the banners again, you can just uninstall the tweak and functionality will return to normal.
Since this feature is iOS 6-only, you will only be able to use this tweak on a device with the tethered limera1n jailbreak on iOS 6, such as the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and iPod touch 4G. You can grab NoNewApp from the ModMyi repository today.

Or you could take a second and open the app then close it......lol! Unless that's too much effort of course........I'd imagine that you're going to open the app anyway since you downloaded it........

hide it manually by editing the SpringBoard.strings look for this:
and rename this image:Code:"NEWLY_INSTALLED_APP_SASH_LABEL" = "New";
IconSash@2x~iphone.png
to
IconSash@2x~iphoneOLD.png
or something like
there found in:
System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/Your_Language.lproj
and
System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app

What a stupid tweak. Why do people waste their time creating something this? Or writing about it? Why am I wasting my time commenting?

I really don't see the need to hide the banner. When u download it from the AppStore, you will open the app anyway.

Not only does an existing tweak exist (which is where this came from, seeing as it's iMast), but it's so simple that it can be done in a single line of code. This is definitely not something that's worth a review, since it's not even his work. I appreciate you reviewing new tweaks - don't get me wrong - but iMast does not deserve it.
Here's the original tweak, released a long time ago, and its one-line source code: https://github.com/r-plus/NoSashIcon...aster/Tweak.xmLast edited by Aehmlo; 11-11-2012 at 07:06 AM.

I was thinking the same thing...once its opened it goes away. I like how they say if you want it back uninstall the tweek....however that would mean you need the app to not be opened ever to see it again....these writers need some better material...9to5mac post all this stuff about 2 hrs before....time to get their own material..
