Apple Unwilling to Pay Much for Motorola Patent Licenses
How much is a license to Motorola's patents worth? If you ask Apple, the answer is about $1 per iPhone. Of course, that's not a guess. That's actually Apple's opinion.
Less than one week before a FRAND contract trial kicks off in the Western District of Wisconsin, Apple has gone on record to state to the court that it is willing to pay Motorola Mobility for a license to its standard-essential wireless patents... but not much.
Apple, our friends at FOSS Patents reports, will only fork over some cash to the Google-owned subsidiary "if the per-unit royalty does not exceed $1."
If the court sets a FRAND rate at or below $1, Apple will take a license and start to pay right away. Otherwise Apple will appeal the decision and exhaust all of its legal options before Google gets anything.

$1 an iPhone doesn't sound like much but if Apple sells a million iPhones then that's a million dollars...

This is not a matter of how much Apple is willing to pay, it is what FRAND sets the price.
Apple can act like a child and try not to pay, in the end Apple will have to pay.
Motorola files a cease and desist order until a settlement can be reached, I bet that would light a fire under Apple.

wow, apple not only sues other companies for having rectangles with rounded corners but apple also wants to dictate to other companies how they are willing to pay to user their patents.

I think $50.00 per iPhone ever sold sounds about fair to me.
