Default Apple's Siri Now Off The Hook(er) in Chinese Escort Scandal

Apple's Siri voice recognition and virtual assistant platform makes it easy to call a girl. But it's also been used for call
girls. And that's a big problem say critics who lashed out against Apple in China, where prostitution services had previously made it through Siri's results filter.

But not anymore. According to a new report from The Times of India, Apple has addressed the issue.

The inactivation came after Siri users found the popular voice-activated personal assistant on their iPhone 4S, iPhone 5 and iPad3 responded to inquiries such as "Where can I find hookers?" or "Where can I find escorts?" by listing the nearest locations, mostly bars and clubs.
For now, Apple has extricated itself from the predicament by apparently updating the filtering process to exclude the controversial search results. "Responding to reports from our users, we have blocked information related with 'escorts,'" a member of Apple customer service staff was quoted as saying in the press coverage.

Why filter search results? All Siri is, is a glorified search engine. Does Google censor its searches?

China is still communist i believe. Absoute control is not good for technology as you can see. Thankfully I don't live anywhere near them :]

Yes. In china. In fact, Google's the only company or nation in recent history to stand up to china. They refused, for almost a Year, not to filter their results and were subsequently banned from communist china. They're back now, but yes, they are filtered by a set of Chinese government regulatory filters.

In China, yes. Google and all other forms of electronic communications are censored (either self-censored or wholly blocked by the "Great Firewall" for those who don't comply).

We're just finally seeing the application of these policies to Siri is all.

FYI Apple "filters" Siri outside of China. I wasn't referring exclusively to China.

Censor filters on Google searches. That seemed clear from context to me.
Here to help if I can. If I can't I know someone who can!
