Emergency Apps Rising to Top of App Store Lists Due to Sandy
It is hard to figure out just how useful something like an iPhone can be in an emergency situation until the circumstance comes up. During the last 48 hours, millions of people living along the East Coast have looked to their smartphones for assistance. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the App Store, as TechCrunch recently noticed that three of the top six free apps on the marketplace are tools that could prove useful for those in Hurricane Sandy’s trajectory.
Among the aforementioned apps is The Red Cross Hurricane app, which rocketed up the charts to the number two spot, followed immediately by a top-rated flashlight app. A few spots further down the list is The Weather Channel app. If you keep looking, a few spots even further down the list is yet another Flashlight app and another hurricane tracker.
The influx of users downloading and utilizing these apps has caused a reshuffle of the top free charts, which is otherwise normally occupied by Facebook and free game apps. Hopefully the apps are making life a bit easier for those who are still feeling the effects of Hurricane Sandy. If you happen to be affected or have family, friends, or loved ones that are, stay safe and hopefully everything returns to normal sooner rather than later.

I have been using Red Cross Hurrricane app it is very useful. It sends you notification alerts based on your location and locations that you can choose to add different from where you are. It tells you emergency tips before and after the hurricane, very accurate and emergency alerts in time. Red Cross have two more with the same functions but for earthquakes and another one about first aid which is A+

If you have to use your phone as a flash light during a disaster, your priorities are way screwed up.

Gonna say it: flashlight app is cuz of Halloween, guys. Hurricane trackers aren't disaster survival tools either. The tracker is used before the disaster, the survival tools are used after. Nice try on this one though.
Remember this also: causation does not mandate correlation.

If your jailbroken there's no need to even have a flash light app on your device. You can just invoke the flash with an activator gesture instead...
