Default Google Goes to The Nexus Level to Challenge Apple

Google this week has cancelled its media event in New York City in anticipation of monster storm Hurricane Sandy's arrival. But the Internet search giant is still moving forward with its planned device refreshes and new releases.

Today, we’re excited to announce three great new Nexus devices … in small, medium and large. And they all run Android 4.2, a new flavor of Jelly Bean—which includes the latest version of Google Now and other great new features.
So without much fanfare, Google raised the curtain today on a new Nexus 4 smartphone, a 10-inch iPad challenger called the Nexus 10, and a refreshed Nexus 7 tablet with cellular data connectivity.

Overall, here is what Google is backing in its latest effort to slow the growth and market ubiquity of Apple's iDevice line:

    • Nexus 4: 8GB for $299; 16GB for $349; available unlocked and without a contract on 11/13 on the Google Play store in the U.S., U.K., Australia, France, Germany, Spain and Canada. The 16GB version will also be available through T-Mobile for $199, with a 2-year contract.
    • Nexus 7: 16GB for $199 and 32GB for $249; available in the U.S., U.K., Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Canada and Japan, and also through our retail partners Gamestop, Office Depot, Office Max, Staples and Walmart.
    • Nexus 7 with 32GB and mobile data: $299 and unlocked, on sale 11/13 in the Google Play store in the U.S., U.K., Australia, France, Germany, Spain and Canada.
    • Nexus 10: 16GB for $399; 32GB for $499; available on 11/13 in the Google Play Store in the U.S., U.K., Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Canada and Japan.

You just have to wonder how much of a haircut Google is taking on that price point to move units on this thing.

I mean, it's a top-tier flagship phones in specs (noting the omission of LTE though), so $300 can't be above Google's total costs.

I love android, I could care less about 3g or lte on a tablet, I'm almost always near wifi and if not I'm tethered to my phone which is lte.

So for 79 bucks more than the 329 the ipad mini is priced at, you get a full 10 inch Super retina display with a next generation CPU and 2 gigs of ram. um.... though choice here....NOT!

Buying mine as soon as its available! I considered an iPhone 5 but it just didn't impress me enough to buy . I've owned the 3G 3GS 4 4s.

$299 for the Nexus 4 unlocked is a pretty awesome price. Will have to pick up one of those.

It'd be great if they kept the 8gb nexus 7 and dropped the price to like 150...perfect
