85% of New iOS Gamers Quit Playing Games After the First Day

Many of you may be familiar with the act of downloading almost any iOS game if its free, no matter how dumb it may seem at first. A new study conducted by Playnomics recorded user engagement in free-to-play social games which resulted in the discovery of the fact that 85% of new players in the U.S. never go back to the game after the first day. The study, originally started in March, basically tracked individuals who downloaded free-to-play games and found that after the first day of downloading the game, the majority of individuals had already decided to quit. By September, the study revealed that a whopping 95% of individuals had become inactive.
Additional information that was discovered by the study revealed that Friday and Saturday ended up being the two biggest days of the week for people to actually spend money on games. It’s a bit ironic at first thought because those are usually the days where people tend to go out and put in the shortest amount of play time on average. It appears that waiting around on friends, family, and loved ones results in time that’s just right to download and play a quick and casual game on the good old iOS device, apparently long enough to not want to play it again as well.
Personally, iOS games tend to be a bit too casual for my liking although not everyone feels the same way. Do you find yourself to fall under the same category classified by this study?

Yeah I do that too. That's because I'm looking for a game that will last and I still haven't found one. CSR racing is more than a day.

That title is completely misleading! It reads as if 85% of ALL iOS gamers stop playing ALL games after one day. The fact is that this only applies to free-to-play games and that they stop playing said game (and only that game) after one day.

People, let's get serious here. IOS games are dull, stupid........ name it as you wish.
Serious games can be played only on PC or MAC platform.
When I just think of Lara Croft or Home World and similar........ that's gaming ....
IOS games are just for kids.
Sorry if anyone get's offended with my statement

I'm one of those 85% too. Yet to find a game that I'd like to finish.

I do that too. It stays on my iPod for like a month though until I finally delete it.

Your opinion is just that, YOUR opinion. Serious gamers play on any platform that has the games THEY want to play.
I game on all platforms and have found some really great and epic titles on iOS.
Galaxy on Fire 2, GTA Chinatown, GTA 3, Real Racing series, Skies of Glory, Rise of Glory(both), COD Zombies, etc, etc....
So saying that serious gamers only play on PC and MAC is a rather ignorant statement, and sorry if I offended you.
And no, I do not fall into the category regarding the article, I pay for my games and will spend many hours, months, and even years playing.Last edited by HeliPilot; 10-20-2012 at 09:18 AM.

Ok.. Click on the article and read the rest of it..
Entirely disagree, I can see why you believe that to give some credit. ps3/Xbox/PC/etc; games are on a different level, period. iOS games are time killers as well for enjoyment; However, When you get into the RPG games that's when the gaming takes a different toll in iOS. I have friends that love the iOS RPG, mostly because of the simplicity and how everything is in front of you at the touch of your finger. Just two different views, no offense taken my brotha

I wish all my friends on FB would stop playing social based games as they drive me nuts with play request!

Very few games I will play more than 5 minutes. If I do play longer than that, I'm usually hooked on a game and will play it incessantly until I'm totally sick of it. That usually takes a week or more.

I find it hard to get into iOS games simply because of the controls. It's not as precise as other platforms

I used to play an iOS game called Eliminate and the controls were perfect for the phone. $60 later in upgrades, though, and I realized I was an idiot for getting sucked into a game that has no significance in 'real' life!!!
...that's prolly when I stopped playing iOS games...!
