Keyless Entry and Remote Door Locking Comes to the iPhone with Lockitron

Lockitron has recently announced a new hardware product that attaches to most deadbolt locks and allows doors to be locked and unlocked via an iPhone app. The new product also seems to take advantage of Bluetooth 4.0 to unlock doors when a registered iPhone 4S or 5 approach the door. The whole concept is pretty nifty and if you find yourself to be a tech-savvy person (which you probably are – why else would you be reading ModMyi?) than this may be something you might like.
The company previously offered a lock which was a full replacement for the entire lock and handle, an idea that made it nearly impossible to use for people who rent. This new iteration of the device attaches to a deadbolt without any permanent changes, giving renters the opportunity to finally use it. Users can unlock their doors via the Lockitron app, an SMS message, or by using Bluetooth 4.0 to unlock it wirelessly, all of which seem to be pretty nifty ways of unlocking doors. The wow-factor that will keep guests surprised and the convenience it can provide to users seems quite attractive. You can watch a video of the product below:
If you are interested in getting your hands on one of these, the company seems to be taking preorders for the device, which is priced at $149. It should be noted that the company won’t be taking any payments until the device is ready. As of right now, Lockitron expects the first 1,000 units to be ready for shipment by March of 2013, so if you decide to pre-order, you’ll still have to wait for quite some time.

I don't get why the you tube links don't work for me when i tap on them from my iPhone. Any help appreciated. Says "the URL cant be shown". Do I need a tweak or Third party app perhaps?

Are they really any better than the kwikset models out there already? If you rent, just save the old doorknob to reinstall, and the kwikset ones have smart keys that can be rekeyed to match a key u already have. With Bluetooth it sounds like it'll eat your batteries up in a day...

Way too expensive for just a Bluetooth sensor and a motor, and my dad still has a BlackBerry. Not happening

So how does it power up? Do you have to remove it & charge it periodically? The playskool blue has to go!

Off topic, but come on Moderators, when oh when will we get an update for this app. Love the site, hate the app more and more everyday.
Any one recommend another site with a better app; sorry modmyi :-(?

I have an idea based off of this (actually the key FOB door lock at Costco) but my idea has a lot more integrated into it.
Wish I knew how to code cuz I could make a running model of my invention but creating an App for it is a whole nother ballgame...

Completely awesome, but thats a pretty steep price for 1 door. I'd pay that for a set of them, but not 1.
