Default IPhone 5 iFixit Tear Down Already Under Way

Only a few hours have passed since Apple’s iPhone 5 launched in Australia and iFixit has already nearly finished their teardown of the iPhone 5.

The iDevice tear down experts have already declared the iPhone 5 much easier to take apart than the iPhone 4S.

"Compare this to the iPhone 4s, where it took 38 steps to isolate the display assembly, and this iPhone may be the most repairable iPhone we've seen in a while,"— iFixit.
The familiar pentalobe screws are still present, and all the expected fixins including a larger battery, A6 processor, Qualcom LTE chip are present. However, oddly enough Apple has changed their vibration motor from the “quieter and less annoying linear oscillating vibrator” to the old rotational with counterweight motor.

The iPhone 5 back case is also incredibly light. The aluminum back case with a number of components still attached to it only weighs slightly more than the glass back of the iPhone 4S. Impressive.

More when the tear down is complete.

It's dual core clocked at 1Ghz (not underclocked to 800Mhz this time).

Personally I think adding more ram than that is sorta ridiculous it's not like you are going to do hd video editing etc. one gig will do a great job!

Of course we need tear downs.
Now that its released, people will be breaking them so some of us can make a little money fixing them.
    Love iFix vids.

    Of course we do!

I am so glad to see how easy a screen job and home button will be on this model vs the 4/4S. I cant wait to crack mine open tomorrow night!

i can't wait for the mods!!!! easier teardown means easier mods, new back anyone? i'd love to have a color kit for this iphone as i plan to have it for a while! love the 1 gb ram, been waiting a long time for it and severally needed it, always running low. Probably spring for the 32 GB one as my 16 GB already ran out of space long ago

Added performance has more to do with matured architecture in the processor than frequency. Adding frequency makes for intolerable power consumption/performance ratios. Intel learned this the hard way.

I would love to hear specs in Apples first attempt at smartphone cores.

The A6 is the first Apple SoC to use its own ARMv7 based processor design. The CPU core(s) aren't based on a vanilla A9 or A15 design from ARM IP, but instead are something of Apple's own creation. But as i have it understood it´s somewhat of a TWO A15 cores processor. unlike the 4S.

    Bigger Cores.... Double the speed.

Yep something like that. Apple is no longer using ARMs premade chips like the A8 in the iphone 4S, instead opting to make their own SoC that is much more efficient and built with ARM v7 architecture instead of ARM v6 in most of the current gen SoCs. It was originally thought to be 2 dual core A15 chips which is a yet to be released ARM chip but turns out they used their own SoC clocked at 1.0 Ghz. By changing the chip and not setting the clock spped high they are able to make it way faster while maintaining battery and making it far more efficient. In speed tests it beat out the quad core tegra 3 1.5 Ghz HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S III. The Tegra 3 chip is based on ARM V6

There's more to processor speed then just the megahertz. It's faster because it is based on a new A15 architecture, as apposed to the 4S's
(And every other phones) Cortex A9.
