Phil Schiller Confirms Apple has no iPhone 5 Dock in the Works

When Apple first announced and introduced the iPhone 5 to the general public, there was one accessory that remained absent: a dock. The Cupertino California company introduced other accessories that utilized the new smaller connector, Lightning but the dock just didn’t end up being one of them. Included in these accessories was a 30-pin adapter, a USB cable, an HDMI and VGA cable, etc.
In a recent email published to the folks over at 9to5Mac, Apple Senior vice President of Marketing, Phil chiller, confirmed that they have no plans on producing an iPhone 5 dock. As a response to a customer inquiry about the possibility of an Apple-made dock, Schiller responded with the following:
Schiller ended up signing the email with “Sent from my iPhone 5” as well, indicating what is fairly obvious here, that he is already using an iPhone 5. Many of us will be getting our hands on an iPhone 5 when it is released to the public this Friday, September 21st but for those of you who were waiting to hear about a dock, you may be left a bit disappointed. We do not plan on making a dock for the iPhone 5. Most people who use docks use them with speaker or clock systems.

That's just about as dumb as a $7.00 coffee from Starbucks.... I'll bet dock sales were down starting with Iphone 4 since everyone's 2G dock worked perfectly resulting in discontinuing. The dock is super practical and I'm sure this will benefit 3rd party vendors a lot.

Apparently because the new dock connector has no ipod out and the new adapter doesn't help that, many cars, most notably BMW and mini will no longer be able to control their phone/music etc through the vehicle interface. I'm sure that some third party deal will turn up but that doesn't make me feel any better having paid for the manufacturer options to install it in my car.
The commentary on this was originally reported by slashgear.

I find that Bluetooth integration works better and is wireless. That's unfortunate for iPod Out users, though. My car supports both (2012 Acura TL) but I've almost never plugged in the iPod Out port...it has search features and such, but the interface in the car is terrible.
As for a dock itself, I think this would be nice but definitely not a necessity. Apple probably realized Dock sales had been plummeting so why bother. Leave it to the 3rd parties...

One of the big reasons I didn't upgrade was the dock. I have like 15 spare iPhone dock wires, 3 dock speakers, and many different iPhone dock accessories throughout my house. Upgrading to this is not only a step back but an expensive one. I mean they want you to spend $30 on a probably $5 piece of hardware, and the dock doesn't even have iPod out. I use that daily for my car and HATE the quality of Aux Out so that's why I use it. Pretty big bummer, only reason they aren't making docks is cuz they want to force you to buy the adapter.

Someone could easily make a Bluetooth plug that goes to your existing dock. Then your iP5 doesn't even have to mate with it, but all iPod controls are converted to A2DP+AVRCP commands.
For new docks that use the lightning connector, two kinds are possible:
1. Charges the iPhone 5 and has audio output through the lightning connector, but has no media control.
2. Charges the iPhone 5 through lightning connector, receives audio through Bluetooth A2DP, controls media through Bluetooth AVRCP.

I don't know what all the fuss is about just wait until a Chinese manufacture makes a cheap lightning adapter rather than buying apples expensive one...
