Apple Releases Figures: 2 Million iPhone 5 Units Sold in First 24 Hours

Just on Friday, the first day of the iPhone 5 pre-orders, an Apple spokeswoman announced in the middle of the day that the company was "blown away" by the consumer response from the iPhone 5.

As it appears, Apple was fully justified to have said this, as the company appears to have seen more than two million units pre-ordered in the first 24 hours of being made available to consumers. This figure shatters the record of the iPhone 4S' pre-order sales, which Apple reports as having been about one million.

Apple today announced pre-orders of its iPhone 5 topped two million in just 24 hours, more than double the previous record of one million held by iPhone 4S. Demand for iPhone 5 exceeds the initial supply and while the majority of pre-orders will be delivered to customers on September 21, many are scheduled to be delivered in October.

Since the iPhone 5 has packed so many features that consumers have demanded into one tiny device, it was foreseen that it would be a successful release. The iPhone 5 is currently in such high demand that supplies are running scarce for the time being. Apple’s Web site shows that iPhone 5 pre-order shipping dates have been pushed back 2-3 weeks.

This morning, AT&T released a statement confirming that the iPhone 5 was the best-selling iPhone of all time for them. The number of iPhone 5 units ordered from AT&T is included in this two million-unit figure, as well as iPhone 5 units from other carriers allowing consumers to pre-order the device, such as Verizon.

If you’re planning to pre-order the iPhone 5, act fast. Shipping dates may continue to slip as high demand viciously attacks Apple’s initial supply.

From an iPhone 4 user waiting since the iPhone 4s was crap to upgrade to the iPhone 5, i will be a happy camper with this new iPhone! This new phone has all the features and more then i'll ever use or need an a "Smartphone", not sure what else people expect or want, it's a phone, lol! Just don't see any reason to be one of the first to buy, are there even any cases out for it yet? I don't have any phone like this without a nice protective case and square trade insurance on it. Also no need or reason to purchase until the jailbreak comes out. Use more jailbreak apps/tweaks then i do stock iOS features. I can buy 2 new iPhones right now if i wanted but again see no reason. Wait til the crazy storm settles, jailbreak comes out, time to buy!!! Now i want to see the Purchase Numbers when the jailbreak comes out, hahaha!!!

I agree. I have the 4 and love it. The iPhone 5 is just a stretched 4s with a speed upgrade. Apple are so far up their own arses its ridiculous.
