Shipping Times for iPhone 5 Pre-Orders Already Slip to Two Weeks

Just a little over one hour after pre-orders for Apple’s iPhone 5 opened up at midnight on Friday, the device shipping times increased to two weeks for all models. That means it took less than two hours for Apple to run dry of its initial batch of iPhone 5s, with the company already quoting a two-week wait time for customers who are still interested.

Although a sellout was expected from analysts and consumers, many didn’t think it would happen so quickly. It currently hasn't been made clear whether Apple actually sold more units than the previous iPhone 4S launch, which took nearly 24 hours to run through its stock or if the company had less stock on hand to begin with.

If you still haven’t purchased the iPhone 5 yet and want to grab one on launch day, your options are limited to visiting the brick-and-mortar Apple store or going to an Apple reseller such as Best Buy or Walmart on the day of the iPhone 5’s official release (September 21). As of right now, some are saying carriers still have some stock left over but chances are that won’t last too long either if it is true to begin with.

I got threw on AT&T about 30min ago went pritty smooth compared to last year and it said delivery on the 21st

I ordered mine through Apple, said two weeks, so I ordered it through Veriizon, which says the 21st.

I got my confirmation number and ship date of 21st. I knew this was going to happen. Everyone told me don't worry about getting up in the middle of the night (EST) and that apple would make enough to last up to at least noon time for 21st delivery. I had my doubts and I'm glad I started at 3am. I did get a few time outs but after 10 minutes I was able to complete the order on the Apple Store App. All other websites kept crashing.

I hopped on Verizon around 3:45 EST, ordered, got confirm of the 21st, went back to sleep. Though I just tried checking the status of the order and Verizon says it's not in the system. I am just hoping that's from the overload.

Finally got through to AT&T website at 6am CDT (tried many times beginnig at 2:30am). Order placed and email received saying

Your iPhone order has been reserved and should arrive as soon as Sept 21, 2012.
