Apple Raises The Curtain on iPhone 5
Phil Schiller did the honors of unveiling Apple's new iPhone 5 today in San Francisco.
While taking the covers off of the next-generation iPhone, Schiller described the device as an absolute "jewel."
It's the thinnest and lightest iPhone Apple has produced so far at just 7.6mm thick. All told, that's 18% thinner than the last model.
"I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that the hardware and software engineering that has gone into this product is unlike we've ever undertaken before," he said. "So, iPhone 5. It is made entirely of glass and aluminum. It's designed and built to an exacting level of standard unlike anything we, or anyone in our industry, have made before."
As we all anticipated, the 6th generation Apple smartphone will deliver 4G LTE connectivity. "We've updated every aspect of iPhone 5. Everything has been enhanced," Schiller says, explaining that in the US, Sprint, AT&T and Verizon will support LTE on the iPhone 5. "And we have a really unique innovation with a dynamic antenna. It can automatically switch antenna connections." Similar to how the 4S worked."
The iPhone 5 is also the biggest iPhone Apple has released in terms of screen size. You've got a 326ppi Retina display (4-inches) with 1136 x 640 resolution. In short, the new iPhone delivers the same width as before, but it's now taller.
The A6 processor, needless to say, will dramatically speed up graphics and general CPU performance. Schiller specifically drew attention to how A6 will launch pages twice as fast as before.
With all the new features, you may be wondering how battery life will be impacted. According to Schiller, iPhone 5 will exceed the battery life of the iPhone 4S.
iPhone 5 will be available in black and white. The price structure for iPhone 5 is the same as previous models: $199 for 16GB, $299 for 32GB, $399 for 64GB. Pre-orders start on Friday the 14th for shipping on September 21st in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Stay with MMi for more coverage coming out of San Francisco today.

I had to be the one to say it, this is the most boring iPhone launch I have seen to date. Maybe I speak for myself but none of these were shockers. Almost 15-20 minutes now talking about revamped iTunes & iPod.. really? Maybe it's because I've watched through everyone one of these key-notes since the original debut.
Don't get me wrong.. I"ll buy it but was really hoping the leaks were not true & Apple would release something NEW up their sleeves.

Quick question guys. I'm buying this thing and I'm curious if when they say "pre-ordering begins on Sept. 14" does that mean (historically) that I can order midnight on 09/14 or at some other specific time?

Dissapointed with this iphone. Expected atleast 12 MP camera with a wider screen and finger print scanner. Nothing new, just a few enhancements to speed.

A True 16:9 Ratio Display, 1 Row Wide/1 Row Long, Wireless Charging, 1080p HD Front Facing Camera, NFC Capability. Should I go on?
Don't forget to hit the thanks button if you liked what I said or did

samsung basically did this 18 months ago with the S2 (even before the 4"S" was launched). iPhone innovation sadly died with Steve Jobs.

more room on the screen for widgets
personally i like the look of the IP4 and IP5
i mean its a phone, it fits in hands

It's 2012 and Apple still thinks it's a big deal to talk about turn by turn navigation...
Seems like Apple is playing catch up and they are getting closer to what the S3 is. One good thing may come about this new iPhone...hopefully the S3 price gets lower because I can't wait to get rid of my iPhone 4.
The new iPod Nano seems to be the best part of this event.

THE LEAKS killed the "iPhone 5". Apple needs to shoot and kill anyone responsible for the leaks, lol. i mean there is no anticipation anymore what so every. The iPhone 4 leak was bad, the iPhone 5 leaks were just AWFUL for apple. Im not impressed even though the added hardware is actually really nice because i wanted a "wow" factor that the leaks took away from me.

Totally underwhelmed. 😠

Disappointed with the iP5, very disappointed. But I'll not be buying a GS3. Why? Because one thing Apple products are is polished and that's what I like.
Samsung products I'm sure are great but they, (to me at least), feel and look horrid.
I don't even know if I'll upgrade to this actually.
