'Quantum' Allows You to Change Notification Banner Font

If you like customizing the look of iOS, another free tweak has just surfaced in Cydia today called Quantum, by iOS developer Sirifl0w. The tweak brings customization to the iOS 5 notification banners, allowing you to change the font of both the message content and the title from within the banners. Above is a screenshot example of what it would look like to have the font changed with Quantum.
It’s obviously a very minor change to iOS as a whole, but it adds that personal level of appearance that no stock iPhone has and ultimately lets you use the font that fits you instead of the default font that Apple just smacks everywhere. It’s a very simple tweak to use and it works with all notification banners no matter what application shows it.

The tweak does add a preferences pane to the Settings application where you will be able to customize your banners. The pane includes the ability to enable and disable the tweak on demand and the ability to pick a title font and a message font. The title font is the string of text that shows either the sender name or the application name and the message font is the string of text that shows what the actual notification is. Each time you change any of the fonts, you will have to tap on the respring button to save your changes.
You aren’t limited to having the same font for the notification and the title; in fact, you can have a different font set for the title than the actual notification. This may look a little goofy if you choose to go that route, but it’s nice to know that the option is there. There are over 30 fonts to choose from in both lists.
Quantum won’t affect your fonts anywhere else throughout iOS, so it is definitely limited. Other alternatives like BytaFont offer system-wide font change that is not limited to banners. Quantum is for those that don’t want to go all out and change everything about iOS, getting a headache looking at it in the process – just the banners instead. For a free tweak, I would say it is worth checking out.
