Concept Video of iPhone 5 Shows Some of What We May Expect to See Tomorrow
Tomorrow is the big day that the iPhone 5 will be announced by Apple in the beautiful location of Yerba Buena. It’s certainly a highly anticipated event as many Apple fans have been waiting both patiently and impatiently, money in hand, to get their hands on the next-generation handset.
So what can we expect from the next generation iPhone? So far, the rumors are pointing to a possible A6 chip, 4-inch retina display, redesigned sync cable and headphones, redesigned iPhone uni-body design that is 9mm taller and 22% thinner than the iPhone 4S, 4G LTE wireless technology, and a possible bump upwards in memory and storage. It’s a lot to take in at once; as are most of Apple’s massive Keynote events, but there might even be more to tomorrow's event than meets the eye.
Above is a video concept of what the iPhone 5 is expected to look like when Apple pulls the curtain on it tomorrow. Also included are a few miscellaneous unofficial concepts that the video artist and graphical designer, Sam Beckett, added just for fun, but are not guaranteed to be a part of it at tomorrow's big event. These unofficial concepts include a home button-based fingerprint scanner for unlocking the device, and a Mission Control toggle interface (part of iOS) that mimics some popular jailbreak tweaks. They're very cool, but likely will not become a reality tomorrow.
We also reached out to Sam Beckett to learn a little more about his thoughts on the video as he was making it. Sam thinks the four-inch screen is going to make the biggest impact on consumers out of all the rest of the features of the iPhone 5 because it has been so highly demanded by the market. Sam also says that while controversial, the reason he included the fingerprint technology in his concept video is because Apple recently purchased AuthenTec Inc. (a security company), but he doesn’t see the feature coming to life any sooner than 2013. Mission Control was just a nifty idea of his own because he feels Apple's own controls are bit "unintuitive."
The video is presented in a way that I would expect Apple to present their iPhone video at the Keynote; it has that light and jingly music that just catches your attention. That being said, how many of the features in the video are you expecting to see at tomorrow's iPhone 5 event?

Actually I would be just fine with a taller-only screen. Looking back at the original argument, it's important that the screen is narrow enough that our thumbs can reach the other side. In completely agree with the piece Dustin Curtis wrote last year. Read more:

what a huge waste of time that was, both to make and to watch. it's not going to have fingerprint scanning, why would the calendar and contacts be so much different that oh i dunno, what ios 6 actually looks like? i also doubt it will have 128gb of storage either but that would be nice. honestly why would you even show this when the announcement is tomorrow???

Some of this may come to fruition but I ultimately believe Apple will something out of left field tomorrow that no one will expect. My hope is a redesigned iPhone that looks nothing like that mock ups.

Fingerprint-scanning home button? Don't we already know that the button is just a squared-off one and that the touch sensitivity is on either side of it?
That said, I didn't see any mention of the touch-sensitive back panel I've been telling everyone about.
No mention of the status LEDs either.Last edited by CZroe; 09-11-2012 at 05:17 PM.

I don't really care I'm excited either way. Apple has never let me down on coming out with an amazing phone. I'm sure I'll upgrade to the new one, just like many of us have done every year.

Glass and two tone back panel would be epic fail by Apple. I would prefer an all aluminum back because it's more durable. We will see tomorrow.
