WSJ Report Claims iPhone 5 to Have Global LTE Support
The Wall Street Journal is reporting today that Apple’s new iPhone will feature worldwide LTE support.
The news of LTE isn’t knew by any means, but the fact the new iPhone will support global versions of LTE for Asia and Europe as well as the United States is pretty huge. The ability for iPhone owners to jump continents and take advantage of LTE speeds is a big selling point, but is more important for carriers trying to sell Apple’s phone.
Apple Inc.’s AAPL +0.62% next iPhone will work on the fastest wireless networks around the world—including in the U.S., Europe and Asia—though it is unlikely to be available on every carrier, people familiar with the matter said.
The technical compatibility with so-called LTE networks removes a big competitive danger for Apple and gives carriers a chance to sell their fastest data services to Apple’s huge base of iPhone customers. — WSJ
But, the different technologies and different spectrums that make up the different LTE services provide Apple with another quandary when building a global phone. Not every band of LTE can be supported, unless Qualcomm and Apple have devised some serious micro-chip jujitsu. Apple will likely support the largest markets, which include the U.S., South Korea, and Japan in terms of LTE adoption at least.

wonder whose LTE technology Apple "took" to achieve this.
If I am top communications corporation I would keep an eye out on iPhone's hardware for this.

the only problem is that for Apple, "Global" only refers to some parts of the United States, and the worst part is that Apple itself contradicts this report when 2 days ago they say that there are over 20 places in the US that will have towait until the end of the year to even have 4g coverage, and that's barely the continental US.
On a side note, writers of modmy, please stop using the image of the mockup, remember last october you went all out using the image of another iphone 5 mockup to just have to keep using the same old iphone 4 images, that even happened with the ipad too, please wait until the official announcement to start using the real finished product image.

This seems cool...Cool for Apple and Apple stockholders mainly. I just don't really see this being a big selling point with the average customer. Unfortunately...I am not a globe trotting, continent hopping iPhone user (trust me...I wish I was). And I would imagine that most are in the same boat as i am (figure of speech, not really in a boat) But for the few that are globe trotting, continent hopping, and have actual boats...this will make their lives even better!El Zurdo

If your looking for non-rumor, factual forum this is not the forum for you this time of year.
Getting back on topic, LTE is starting to bloom fast. I am going to wait until next years iphone refresh for LTE to have better coverage and give apple a chance to perfect the next gen phone. Not to mention it will just be a minor improvement over this one :P

Does this mean T-Mobile users will finally get faster than 2G speeds?

AT&T is using ALU (Alcatel Lucent) Technology for there LTE (Long Term Evolution) network in the north east and some parts of the mid west of the US. South east and most of mid west they are using Nokia Flexi for there LTE.

Fact of the matter is, whatever Apple does or doesn't do, all of us Apple Fanatics will go for it... We might complain at first saying: "You could've/should've done better and or different", but at the end of the day, we will all most likely end up in an Apple Store or such buying the newest generation iProducts...
I've been with Apple since the original iPhone... The 2 iPhones I was never interested in were the 3G & 3GS... No significant enough change for me... I jumped from my iPhone 2G to the iPhone 4 once they finally adopted Wireless N technology which for me was a MUST! The iPhone 4S wasn't "great enough" to win me over... Yes having Dual Core Processors, Higher Res Camera, Siri would be cool... But I have Siri on my iPhone 4 which was the "selling point" of the iPhone 4S regardless of the fact that it was IDENTICAL to the iPhone 4...
All that aside... I'm looking forward to seeing the FINAL version of the "iPhone 5"... Having 4G LTE support is ofcourse the next big thing (bigger screen is a plus I guess)... But personally, a HUGE SCREEN, is not something I'm thrilled with... It's suppose to be a "Smart Phone", not a portable HUGH A** "Palm" device which barely fits in your pocket...
Regardless... I adore my Apple products....Don't live by other people's rules... Live by your OWN!!!
Why settle for less if you can have sooo much more!!!

The 3rd ipad has lte /4g but only for the usa , how apple know which networks are using which frequencies is beyond me , as in holland they have in 2013 a 4g network but as yet no frequencies have been chosen , so apple cant know if it will work in every country ,
I see another rush from apple to remove the 4g stickers before they are sued , thats if anyone wants a stupid small screened iphone anyway , no apps or games will work on a 16.9 screen , not even the ipad idea of a zoom will work as you will loose the top or have a flattened screen
