Apple's iPhone 'Driving' Change at BMW

The popular white iPhone first introduced in 2010 with the iPhone 4 has apparently exerted significant influence on the automobile industry - at least for the folks on the design team at BMW.

The lavish vehicle maker, as it turns out, has seen a surge in the number of white vehicles demanded by drivers and prospective BMW buyers. The reason? BMW designer Sandy McGill credits the popularity of the white iPhone models from Apple.

Apple, he says, has made "white" fashionable again among luxury product owners. In the past, black - from phones to limos - was the elegant color of choice. Now, it's white. So is Apple really contributing to this reversal of fortune for the color white?

"Prior to Apple, white was associated with things like refrigerators or the tiles in your bathroom," McGill admitted in a recent interview. "Apple made white valuable," he added, noting that Steve Jobs' vision for an attractive white smartphone has irrevocable spread to the automobile industry.

This article is specifically referring to the intro of the long awaited white all glass iPhone 4, which took 6+ months of retooling to get it light tight and looking good.

White has really been blowing up recently in the automobile industry but I actually got my white bmw back in 2009. Not trying to brag but just stating that white started becoming fashionable even before the white iphone as stated in the article. I have to say though that the iphone has had a huge impact on the color white.

Oh please. What a load of crap....a white phone influencing automobile color purchases? Apple making "white" fashionable again? Get f**king real! White dress suits, white KSwiss shoes, Pearl White cars, white leather, all popular LONG before Apple's white phone came into existence.

They couldn't even get the damn color right. They had so many problems with light bleeding through they had to make it thicker just to get it to STAY white. So I wouldn't credit Apple with anything short of developing a white glass phone that was delayed and then delayed some more and doesn't turn any more heads than your other average smartphone.

I hated the white iPhones till my network gave me one cause they have stupid distribution staff! Turned out when i moved to a new store to work it had a great point! As there are not enough lockers we keep our phones in a locked drawer! First day I noticed about 6 iPhone 4/4s all in black and there's my white 4s standing out like a sore thumb lol
