Apple Officially Removes Native YouTube App From iOS 6

Earlier today Apple released the iOS 6 beta 4 and with it Google’s native YouTube application disappeared.
We mentioned the missing application briefly earlier today, but Apple has since confirmed to the Verge that the native app will not exist at all when Apple officially releases iOS 6 this fall. For those unaware the YouTube application has been featured on Apple’s iPhone since the devices first iteration.
Apple’s official statement is short, and to the point.
Now, this might seem like another missile launched across the Google v. Apple bow, but the removal of the YouTube app has been a long time coming. The app hasn’t been updated for ages, and has long been surpassed by YouTube’s webapp developed by Google, while Apple develops the native iOS app."Our license to include the YouTube app in iOS has ended, customers can use YouTube in the Safari browser and Google is working on a new YouTube app to be on the App Store." — Apple
Somehow this seems like a win-win situation for Apple and Google, as Google gets the chance to develop their own app the way they want and Apple gets to rid iOS of a native app that helps their largest competitor.

Hmm well the YouTube app does suck. The one google uses in their OS is far superior.

I'm glad it's going, but did anyone notice that in the subscription menu at the bottom there is a show more button?

Damn it. I didn't think the YouTube app was that bad....
But I'm sure someone in the jailbreak community will port it to iOS 6 lol.

No one is mentioning the apple version's superior picture quality compared to the web app's over wifi. Web app is definitely better in functionality but lacks in picture quality compared, even over wifi.

my biggest gripe with the YT app is that if you're in Safari and you click a YT video, Safari closes and opens the YT app to watch the vid.

Not at all surprised, Apple no doubt hate the fact that they have two Google apps built in to their IOS , now they have ditched them both
Just hope that Google Maps and YouTube come back via the appstore, Apples current beta maps app sucks

Honestly Android is coming up quite nicely. I like Googles OS actually. They are doing a nice job and I'm half tempted to go back. I love my Apple products, they work great and look great especially after you JB them and buy some themes but none the less it's still a nice OS.

As long as protube is still developed then i'm ok, i haven't used the ios app in years, is too slow, does not display all the content and you can't choose the quality of the video, plain and simple i hope that like the new maps app they develope and really good app for videos, i just hope it's not something that only let's you see videos uploaded by other iphone users like imessage

Yes ProTube is very much worth it. I really like being able to download a vid for later viewing if I want offline.
