Nuance Rolls Out 'Nina' to Challenge Siri
The smartphone-powered personal assistant pool is widening quickly. On Monday, the folks at Nuance - a company that knows a thing or two about speech-recognition services - raised the curtain on its own intra-app service.
"With Nina," Nuance touted in a press release this morning, "companies can quickly add speech-based virtual assistant capabilities to their existing iOS and Android mobile apps, greatly enhancing the self-service experience for their customers."
Nuance says that Nina combines Nuance speech recognition, Text-to-Speech, voice biometrics, and Natural Language Understanding technology hosted in the cloud to make the service a really snazzy offering to smartphone users.
Nuance says Nina bestows an interactive user experience that not only understands what is said, "but also can identify who is saying it." In other words, without bashing Apple, Nuance is trying to say that Nina achieves a better level of two-way interactive dialog with users than Siri presently does.
"Nina provides our customers a major competitive differentiator by enabling more successful self-service through their mobile apps," says Robert Weidman, general manager of Nuance's enterprise division.

Umm idc. I have a 4s and don't even use Siri. If I want to talk to a smartass bitchy woman I'll talk to my wife!

Was only a matter of time. Not like Siri is the first voice recognition software/application. It is very limited and I can't wait to see some new enhancements for iOS 6. Hopefully they incorporate the Cydia mods as I really like them. Langauge translation, opening applications, closing application, rebooting, powering off, starting music, searching music...a list of things. Very excited about what is to come..
