P0sixninja Leaves Chronic Dev Team

Joshua Hill, aka @p0sixninja, announced his departure from the Chronic Dev Team earlier today with little explanation, and an offer to sell his iPhone 4 and the iBoot 0day exploit for $50.
Hill posted a number of tweets earlier today before leaving Las Vegas and the Defcon conference asking if “Anyone in Vegas” wanted to buy and iPhone 4 for cheap, and that he’d throw in the iBoot 0day exploit for free. Who Hill sold the phone and exploit to is still unclear, but security expert Paul Pols tweeted later that the iBoot 0day exploit could have been used to jailbreak iOS 6.0 across numerous iDevices including the next iPhone and 3rd gen Apple TV.

However, the iBoot 0day appears to be a simple exploit easily patched by Apple via a firmware update. Still, what went down today becomes even less clear when @buzzert, whose real name is James Magahern an Apple employee, enters the picture (or ex Apple as his Linkedin profile removed the Apple listing after iH8sn0w brought the job to light). Apparently Hill reached a deal with Magahern and handed the exploit and phone over to an Apple programmer instead of handing it over to a member of the Chronic Dev team, or another member of the jailbreak community.

No one is currently commenting on the situation, and we will provide more news if and when details about Hill’s exit from the Chronic Dev Team emerge.
Thanks to the many of you who submitted tips regarding p0sixninja's departure.Last edited by Cer0; 07-31-2012 at 09:26 PM.

This is pretty bad news and it's high time for new hackers to enter the iOS jailbreak scene. The iPhone will fall by the wayside without the jailbreaking community. iOS 6 is not that great and at least jailbreaking offered some innovations to the os.

Dude, an all time idol of mine. And just went higher on the list. What a G
But we're not lost now by any means. MuscleNerd/pod2g/geo-hot/ just three to name that are all great exploiters.

Damn! Sad to see him go, too bad he didn't save the exploit. This is very weird though, no explanation, just a sudden leaving. I don't get it.

sad ... for many of us, the only reason to stay with the iphone is because of what a jailbreak allows (and itunes). still, there are many more smart brains out there to fill the void. unfortunately, i'm not one of them

We can't keep how hopes down now, well this is strange leaving suddenly selling everything, I hope this won't be a big effect on jailbreaking new devices, the only reason to buy an apple product is to jailbreak it...

Sad, but I feel confident that the Dev-team will survive this and move forward.

Planetbeing still there and there is others...agree tho that there is a trend to show apple these exploits and then end up being offered an internship, thus making the iOS even harder to JB with these guys onboard...

I'm sure There is a lot to this story of his departure, but it is certainly strange to say the least. Maybe as a community, we should try to do more for the guys that bring us these jailbreaks. Wether it be donations or something else, cuz the dev teams truly do make my iPhone what it is. Without the jb, it just wouldn't be the same phone. Best wishes to posix though.

If he did get Apple job then congrats for him. It's not a bad gig for him to do something he liked doing (I would guess he liked doing it).
