Default Chrome Download Manager - A Real Download Manager for Google Chrome

Earlier in the month we showed you a way to download files on iOS with Google Chrome. The jailbreak tweak that allowed us to do this was dubbed Chrome Download Enabler and while it got the job done well, it lacked something special – a download manager. Today, a new jailbreak tweak called Chrome Download Manager, by iOS developer Skram, is now available in Cydia and it allows you to download files with a visual download manager.

You can see important details such as the file size of the file you are downloading, your current download speed, and the download percentage. The tweak even shows you the download directory where you will be able to find the file when it finishes downloading.

Unlike Chrome Download Enabler, Chrome Download Manager allows you to see the progress of your downloading files, which is a huge plus. In addition, it supports several kinds of different file types. The application works very similarly to Safari Download Manager except it’s made for Google Chrome for iOS rather than Safari. After downloading a file, you will be able to view it in your filesystem with a file browser such as iFile.

Badges will appear on the Google Chrome interface to alert you that a download is in progress and you can have more than one download going on at once. You can choose between directly downloading the file to your filesystem or e-mailing the file instead – as long as it is under 20MB.

Chrome download manager is not without its faults as it doesn't always pick up every download that a Web site has to offer. It is not able to download every single file type, but the good news is Chrome Download Manager can download a large variety of different kinds of files including the ones that you’ll be using day by day such as .zip, .mp3, .jpg, and so forth. That being said, the jailbreak tweak works great for moderate use and it will work decently for the average user trying to save files on their mobile device.

Furthermore Chrome Download Manager does not slow down your performance in Google Chrome. Chrome Download Manager integrates so fluidly to Google Chrome that you might forget that it’s a jailbreak tweak doing the work behind the scenes. In addition, the jailbreak tweak adds some very useful and demanded functionality to the popular and free browser for iOS, so it is certainly worth the install if you need a way to save files through Google Chrome.

Depending on your mood, you can enable and disable Chrome Download Manager on demand from the preferences pane in the Settings application:

Chrome Download Manager will set the buyer back $3 to grab a copy, however even at that price it remains cheaper than Safari Download Manager and can get most of the same jobs done. It’s a good option to consider especially if you enjoy Google Chrome more than Mobile Safari.

Making a PAID addon to a FREE app is pathetic.

Looks really nice and clean but I've already gone back to iCab. It already has every feature included that Chrome will get later as a paid Cydia add-on.

This is actually pretty sick. BUT there is WAY TO MUCH BUGS! But it's still decent. Hopefully the dev irons out the bugs in the near future.

Stupid question: how do you initiate a download???

chrome is a bit laggy, and overrated. for this much money, i'd buy iCab instead. it's a much better browser than chrome.

Tap and hold a link/image/file and an action menu will pop up, with the URL of the item you've selected and the option to download.
Select Downloads from the Chrome menu to bring up the d/l manager.
    Hope that helps

Because Chrome doesn't have access to Safari's Nitro JavaScript engine, and has to rely on the one in the UIWebView class (which is intentionally slower).

I don't find iCab so better than chrome as claimed by one of the guy above, i think chrome knows what to do and how to deal with browsing, after all they own Google!

It's kind of like a jailbreak, at least there's a crack for that!!!!

They should just keep improving safari to beat chrome. If it will always be inferior anyway because of the lack of access to code.
