'iPhone 5' Already Generating Record Consumer Interest
It is widely believed that Apple's 6th generation iPhone - which some are still calling the "iPhone 5" - will be released within the next 90 days. But despite that relatively lengthy period of time before the device reaches consumers, consumer demand for the next-gen Apple smartphone is said to have reached unprecedented proportions.
On Monday, ChangeWave published the results of a new survey indicating that a record number of people are expressing their intention to purchase the 6th generation iPhone right out of the gate. With 4G capabilities, NFC compatibility, and possibly a larger screen coming to the refreshed iPhone, such widespread interest isn't difficult to perceive or comprehend.
"The biggest finding of the survey is the unprecedented level of advanced demand for the next generation Apple iPhone (i.e., the 'iPhone 5') — which based on these survey numbers easily dwarfs the advance demand of any previous iPhone launch," ChangeWave said.
Assuming that the long-established price points of new iPhones remain in place, 31% of those surveyed by ChangeWave admit that they are either "very likely" or "somewhat likely" to buy the new iPhone upon release. Never before has ChangeWave seen almost one-third of survey respondents express plans to purchase a new smartphone before any details about the device have been confirmed by the device manufacturer.

anyway the iPhone always makes more hype then other phones because 1. you know it will come out 2. iPhones do really well in making "accidentally" leaking things for rumors etc. and 3. its one phone by one company with android they don't host events every time they release a phone cause they have release like 1 a day (nothing compared to samsungs 81892437294724 a day)

Ive always bought previous iPhones (3G, 3GS, 4) cash - this will be the first one Im thinking of getting on contract and I hope its awesome. Im looking for a better camera and NFC. Not really phased by a larger screen (scared about the implications of such an upgrade).

Let's not kid ourselves. Crap wrapped in foil with Apple stamp on it will generate interest, because it will somehow be a better crap than all crap that came before it.
As to why it will "dwarfs" all previous iPhone demand is because it may finally be 4G LTE which iPhone 4S should have had, I personally think Apple held it back so they can have something more significant to introduce when new phone is released.
