Apple Reportedly Working on New iTunes For Release Later This Year
Apple is reportedly working on a major overhaul of its iTunes Music Store slated to reach consumers later this year according to Bloomberg.
The new iTunes will feature deeper integration with iCloud so customer’s can “more seemlessly access” their content sources familiar with the matter told Bloomberg. Additionally the new iTunes will likely help users keep track of their files across a number of devices and include “changes to how users find new material and how they access what they already own on different Apple devices.”
New music features like the ability to send music to friends and other users will be included in the new version of iTunes. Ping, Apple’s forray into creating a more social music atmosphere, will reportedly be dropped with the next version of iTunes in favor of other social elements.
Rumors of labels requesting Apple to include their own subscription service a la Spotify, have popped up, but according to Bloomberg’s sources it’s unlikely Apple will institute such a service.
Apple’s iTunes hasn’t seen a substantial update in eons. Hopefully the results are worth the wait.

well apples always going to be working on a new itunes to release...
hopefully apple adds more of a radio feature or over the air feature for itunes. Apple would have an advantage > pandora and other radios because for pandora etc. you have to create your own playlists but with itunes your whole library and all your playlists are already made so with radio feature you could easily play the library or a playlist etc.

I hope it makes it faster. I hate using it because it takes so long to startup.

Just use Genius...

I seriously hope that they will have better playlist management that doesnt get cleared if the media isnt reachable at startup (eg: network resource). Nothing more irritating than having to re-sync everything just because your itunes data got cleared because the server wasnt on at launch and now you are "trying to sync to a new library".

Apple's music genius system needs a major overhaul. I miss using Predexis MusicMagic with WinAmp. It seemed to work better at making intelligent playlists than the current iteration of iTunes Genius, since it used in-depth audio sampling. It even gave suggestions from songs that weren't available from major labels like local bands or independent artists.Member of the hackint0sh forums.

I have slowly phased out of using iTunes because although it is great for music organization, it just feels so heavy and slow. It takes forever to start up, especially after you get a few thousand songs.

Or it may be a problem with the USB drivers - it all comes down to how you install, I believe. iTunes just doesn't play well with Windows.

Lets face it....iTunes is ancient, slow, and ugly. For those of you saying "oh it's fast on my new/newish Mac" your missing the point.
First of all, i don't care. I don't care if it works better on a Mac than a PC. We have moved passed those days. iTunes needs to work GREAT for all OSs and hardware. The entire universe owns a iDevice, yet most do not own a Mac. iTunes needs to become as universal as possible, and work perfect for everyone...not just people who own a Mac.
Beyond just performance, iTunes is, well....flat out ugly when compared to the Apple standard. It needs a major, MAJOR user interface overhaul.
And would it be to hard to add support for .avi files? Not to mention all the other files it wont support. iTunes....it is time to EVOLVE!!El Zurdo
