Apple Planning to Release Standalone Podcast App With iOS 6 This Fall
Apple left out a little tidbit about iOS during their WWDC keynote pertaining to a standalone podcasting application according to an All Things Digital report,
People familiar with the matter claim the reason the latest version of iTunes Apple has been showing developers lacks podcasts is because Apple plans to release a standalone podcast application with iOS 6.
The standalone application would combine the functionality of iTunes and the Music app into a single application in the iOS platform. Currently podcasts are tucked away inside of iTunes and users need to sync their podcasts to their devices. With the standalone app on iOS users will be able to find, download and play podcasts on their mobile app without the tether to iTunes.
The separation of Podcasts into their own app isn’t an unprecedented move on Apple’s part, the company launched iBooks in 2010 offering the book reader as its standalone atmosphere. Apple still lump books, movies, apps, podcasts and games into the iTunes storefront on the desktop despite their separation into separate apps and storefronts in iOS.

As long as that's the icon, bring it on. The springboard needs more purple. If it's blue, I'm gonna hide it on the last page (that's the equivalent of throwing junk down into the basement).

uhhh whut? I download Above & Beyond's Trance Around the World music podcast every week straight from my phone. I keep them on the phone for a couple of weeks and then delete them to save space. Never connect to iTunes for this, don't have to.
I guess it's kinda cool that it will have its own app. It is a bit annoying to have to always have to go into that "More" menu to get to them. However, all I gotta say is that it had BETTER still work with my car stereo or I will be royally pissed. I already have enough trouble as it is with the music starting from the beginning of all songs when I plug it into my car, but then I can still get to the podcasts pretty easily through the car stereo menu.
I've been listening to the TATW podcast in my car almost exclusively for nearly a year now. I barely even listen to other music on my phone, and even less so the radio. So to say that it better work with my car stereo is an understatement.

I thought they launched the Podcast app coz they also removed it from the Music/Video apps but they didn't.
I had nothing but problems with that damn PodCast app. I had it on my daughters iPad1 and my iPad3.
As I dont want to watch her PodCasts I removed them from my iPad but they were also removed from her iPad.
Today I found out as she removed my podcasts from the app in HER iPad they were also deleted from my iPad.
How stupid. I uninstalled it on both iPads and now its back to the way its supposed to be. She's got her podcasts and I got mine on our iPads. If she deletes one it doesn't get deleted on mine anymore.
Looks like Apple have really been suing a lot of people this year as just about everything they've released is buggy as hell.
