Hidden Gem in iOS 6: Versatile Volume Knobs

Apple announced iOS 6 for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch at WWDC recently and with the new updated version of iOS a slew of new features are headed our way. The features range from the new and highly anticipated iOS 6 Maps app, a questionable “Passbook” native app, the option to use FaceTime over cellular data, to additional features for Siri. iOS 6 as a whole is said to have over 200 new features that users will get as a result of updating that many users are looking forward to having. Furthermore, according to a recent survey by Chitika, since features are the reason that many users update their software, it is likely that many will update to iOS 6 because of everything it has to offer.

One of the more subtle features included in iOS 6 is found in the music player. Here, the volume and track scrubber knob has a metallic shine that changes as you tilt your phone back and forth or side to side. If you check above, you’ll notice the appearance of the knob shifts from each image; this is a result of the aforementioned movements. What makes it even more interesting is the fact that it changes in real time, dependent on the accelerometer and gyroscope to pinpoint its accuracy. This feature is found in the Music player for each, the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch and is a feature that can’t be enabled or disabled, it happens automatically.
The little things like this is what help contribute to making iOS 6 not only a more aesthetically pleasing platform but just a more refined and elegant one as well. At a first glance, not too many people would notice such a thing but for those who do, you learn to appreciate all the hard work Apple puts into its products over time. That being said, it’s likely additional features such as this one will be discovered over time in iOS 6 as it will probably be a great operating system in the current smartphone market. Apple certainly has paid a lot of time into designing it and making sure that everything is appealing.
A special thanks to MMi reader Richard Fayad for sending this tip in as well as some pictures.Last edited by Akshay Masand; 06-12-2012 at 10:36 PM.

This is on iCloud.com. Sucks for theming though true. I personally wouldn't change the theme of the slider or iPod it's classic feeling call me old because I remember stereo with volume knobs and record players.

I still question the blue status bar. Will have to try iOS 6 for myself before I know for sure.
Let's go Red Wings!
