Redsn0w 0.9.12b1 Released

The popular jailbreaking application, redsn0w, is back in the game now with support for the latest untethered jailbreak for all devices running iOS 5.1.1 in version 0.9.12b1. Redsn0w will now jailbreak the iPad, iPad 2, the new iPad, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch 4G, and iPod touch 3G. The jailbreak implement’s pod2g’s Rocky Racoon untethered jailbreak method that was released with the Absinthe jailbreak tool for iOS 5.1.1.
With redsn0w being updated for the iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak, Windows users can now pick between three tools – Absinthe, sn0wbreeze, or redsn0w. Mac users can pick between either Absinthe or redsn0w. Redsn0w and Absinthe will jailbreak all of the iOS 5.1.1 devices with just one click of a button without the need to enter DFU mode, while sn0wbreeze will only jailbreak A4 and earlier devices with the need to create a custom firmware and then use pwned DFU mode to install the jailbreak.
Using the new redsn0w, A4 and earlier iOS devices can have the Rocky Racoon untethered jailbreak installed one of two ways: backup and restore method – the way Absinthe installs it, or via ramdisk – this method is explained by the iPhone Dev Team to be safer because it won’t cause issues with iCloud later on:
In addition to the updated jailbreak, redsn0w also has support for people that took advantage of the SAM unlock, as the ramdisk can now be infused with the SAM tickets you were instructed to save for yourself if you have an iPhone 4 or earlier, or you can upload them after the jailbreak is complete on any iPhone model. Redsn0w can use either the raw activation ticket file, or the .zip file redsn0w created to do this for you.

My preferred method on my MacBook, since no absinthe versions have ever worked on it.....thanks devs, now I can stop using the pc to jailbreak.... That always feels so unnatural, mainly because it's a desk top and my MacBook is so much more.... Comfortable?

I used redsnow to jailbreak then installed rocky racoon. Any point to use this tool now? Or ultimately is it the same idea.?

I've already jb my iphone 4 using absinthe. Do I really need to re-jb with redsnow? I enjoy being up-to-date with the most current software, etc....but if re-jb via redsnow means I'll have the same content as I did with Absinthe, then I don't really have to re-jb....right?

Redsnow normally comes with more features like create a custom firmware. Entering dfu mode if ya don't know how. Just some extras. Which absinthe just jailbreaks it and that's all

Do you know how I can keep my packages (Tweaks, Themes, Settings, etc.) without rejailbreaking and upgrading ? Cause I installed a lot of packages, especially from other repos and I don't want to loose it all because I don't remember I won't remember everything I've installed. Is there a way to save that and like restore it back into my device after upgrading and rejailbreaking ? All those packages took me a longg time to put in my device and all these other stuff.
I hope I made sense. Really under the weather today. But thanks.

When you go to account info in Cydia sign in with Facebook or google. And after that you can see what's been installed threw Cydia. They will stay on there unless ya git another phone. Sometimes they stay gitting different phones I heard.
There is also a tweak called aptbackup you can try and see sometimes that works and sometimes it causes more issues. You can also give that a try.
