[Review] Informator for ActionMenu - Easy Access to iDevice Information
It is a well-known fact that some of the information on your iOS device is difficult to get to and navigating through your Settings application to find some of it is like walking through a maze. Luckily, a new ActionMenu plugin dubbed Informator for ActionMenu by iOS developer McNight is now available in the Cydia store for free. This new plugin will make sharing or discovering your iOS device information much easier than before.
Since the new plugin was made for ActionMenu, you have to invoke ActionMenu to pull up the Informator option. Pulling up ActionMenu is easy – hold down on a text space until you bring up the iOS magnifying glass and then release. A black menu will appear and you may need to navigate through the menu with the arrows to get to Informator as illustrated by the blue oval in the screenshot above. Once you tap on the Informator button, a new prompt will appear (shown below):
The prompt is basically a selection box with a ton of options to select from. The list is rather extensive, including all of the following iOS device information types:
- Device type
- Localized device type
- Custom device name
- iOS version
- Serial number
- Wi-Fi mac address
- Free disk space
- Total disk space
- Local IP
- External IP
Once you have opened the prompt of available iOS device information, you can then tap on any of them to auto-insert your unique device’s information, as shown in the screenshot below:
Information such as this can be useful for many different reasons – one of the most obvious being that you can now auto-insert device information to developers in Cydia-based e-mails for troubleshooting such as iOS device type and iOS version. Another good use for this tweak would be to e-mail yourself your own UDID or serial number for future uses. One thing to be wary of is that some of this information needs to be kept safe. You shouldn't give out your iOS device's UDID or serial number for obvious reasons. This ActionMenu addon will not share your information without your permission.
Information can be pasted anywhere that the ActionMenu can access text – it is not limited to the Notes application as demonstrated above. The fact that this addon is so seamlessly integrated with ActionMenu and tucked out of the user's way makes this addon a great one. If you think you might find this ActionMenu addon useful, then be sure to give it a try and report back with your results. It is free, after all!
