iPhone Giving Amtrak Passengers an Electronic Ticket to Ride
Last year, the corporate powers that be at Amtrak decided to begin equipping their conductors with company-issued iPhones. Passengers, however, didn't initially reap the benefits of Amtrak's adoption of technology. But that will change this summer.
According to an announcement this week by Amtrak, passengers will soon be able to print tickets or "load a special bar code" on their smartphone screens. From there, conductors can scan the tickets or barcodes and effectively go paperless.
By late summer, 1,700 conductors will be using the devices on Amtrak trains across the country, the company said.
With everything from airlines tickets to movie tickets going digital at a rapid pace, it seems only fitting that commuter rail passengers are now afforded the same courtesy of cutting edge technologies and the conveniences they bring.
