[Review] App Activation Audio - Sounds for Opening Apps
When you launch applications on iOS, you do so in complete silence. If you’re the kind of person who likes to customize all aspects of their iPhone, then you’ll want to take a look at a new jailbreak tweak dubbed App Activation Audio by iOS developer Laurence Millar – the same developer that brought us Screen Swipe Sounds. App Activation Audio will play a sound every time you launch an application from your home screen and the sounds are completely customizable from the Settings application.
These application-launching sounds can be enabled and disabled at any time, which is great for when you’re entering a quiet environment. As soon as you leave, you can enjoy your sounds again. If you have an iPhone, you can additionally make the device vibrate while it’s playing a sound when an application is launched to give yourself some haptic feedback, but as the iPod touch and iPad don't have vibrators in them, they cannot take advantage of this feature. You can control the volume of the sounds from this preferences pane too.
The list of sounds you can play when you launch an application is as follows:
- Application (male/female)
- Tick Tock
App Activation Audio works with iOS 4 and iOS 5 and has the most application-launching sounds out of any tweak of its class in Cydia (22 in total). To enjoy App Activation Audio you have to enjoy being able to tinker with your interaction with the iDevice. If you like having the iDevice on silent all the time, you will probably not like having a noise playing every time you tap on an application. If you have Screen Swipe Sounds installed, App Activation Audio compliments it very well.
