[Review] Deck - The Ultimate iOS Shortcut Menu
So many functions of iOS are concealed within the Settings application, or require extraneous gestures to perform. There are also so many tweaks and applications in the Cydia store that try to make shortcuts in iOS great, but they lack a major feature – features. This sounds bizarre, I know, but features are the number one thing that most shortcut tweaks and applications lack in the Cydia store.
Coming to the table to compete with all of those shortcut tweaks and applications is a new premium-designed tweak dubbed Deck by iOS developer SBCoders. Just taking a look at the screenshot above, you see the beauty of and work that has gone into Deck. It reminds you of something you would expect right out of Apple themselves, being sleek and simple to use. Deck will set you back just $1.99 to snag a copy from the ModMyi repository of Cydia.
Deck does more than just offer you toggles like SBSettings or IntelliScreenX can, but it also gives you shortcuts for system actions like composing messages and Tweets, launching Siri or the multitasking App Switcher, respringing and shutting down, or even shortcuts for launching up to six applications of your choice. You can customize not only the applications you want to show in Deck, but you can even customize which system shortcuts will appear.
The composition button brings up an iOS-style popup, which gives you the ability to compose Tweets, e-mails, or text messages. The iPhone-shaped button gives you an iOS-style popup with the ability to respring, reboot, power down, or lock the device (put it to sleep). Throughout Deck is an interface of extremely great built quality and animations that only add the icing to the cake. The icons look fabulous and the implementation is stunning.
The list of things you can do with Deck:
- Respring, reboot, power down, lock the device
- Quick-upload text to Pastie
- Toggle a flashlight
- Launch a music application of your choice (Music, Pandora, Spotify)
- Launch App Switcher, SpotLight, Notification Center, Siri, Camera, Wallpaper settings
- Quick compose text messages, e-mails, Tweets
- Toggle Wi-Fi, airplane mode, location services, Bluetooth, mute, 3G
- Create up to six application shortcuts
Deck is opened with an Activator action, which is customizable from the Settings application after you install it from Cydia. I recommend the slide status bar to the left action because it matches very well with the animation of launching Deck as it swings in from the left side of the screen when you launch it. The full Settings pane for Deck is shown below:
From the Settings pane you can enable and disable Deck at your leisure, choose which interface will appear first when you launch Deck, pick your Activator action for launching Deck, choose which music application on your device will be launched by Deck, and last but not least pick your six actions or applications for the Deck shortcut section.
At the moment, the 3G toggle is a pseudo-toggle that will take you to the Settings application. The reason for this is because SBCoders released Deck early due to high demand and has yet to finish the toggle. The 3G toggle will work like any other toggle as soon as SBCoders releases the next update. Another thing to be aware of is after installing Deck you will need to disable and then re-enable it and then pick a music application for it to work. This is a small glitch, which will be addressed in the next update.
I love Deck. I'm sure anyone else who tries it will too.

The best words to describe it are put already in the note "It reminds you of something you would expect right out of Apple themselves, being sleek and simple to use".
